Ubisoft Continuity and 3DO's Universe

I'm a bit peeved at Ubisoft's handling of the Might & Magic Universe.

Around the time Heroes V was to be released, everyone was a bit disappointed about how there was no continuity in terms of characters and story, we were still excited that, at the very least, the gameplay would be faithfully rebuilt from the ground-up.

Then when details of Heroes VI began to be released, it was clear the level of respect Ubisoft had for 3DO's universe. Remixes of tracks from previous titles, heroes from the old universe making appearances, and tributes published on their Might & Magic universe website.

So... what happened?

For anyone who 'Likes' the Might & Magic page, you might know what I'm talking about. It seems to me as though they are now making attempts to separate themselves and cut all ties to Van Canegham's original work.

There are two prime examples of this, where it seems to me that Ubisoft is making it patently obvious that they no longer have respect for or care about the old universe:

Um, what? Why would they go out of their way to state that they're "GONE FOR GOOD"? 'Unfortunately' my ass! That was your decision. It's not like they independently got up and walked out FOREVER AND FOREVER AND WILL NEVER COME BACK!!!111one

And now, today, they post this...

Worlds have already ended in the Might & Magic universe. During the fateful Reckoning, the beloved world of Enroth has been destroyed.

Do you believe it can happen again?

Really, Ubisoft? They have actually gone out of their way to say that the old world has been completely destroyed. Who wants this? Who is this information for? It's worded as if this is bad news, because this obviously isn't good, but they're talking as if it was destroyed and it was out of Ubisoft's control. It's worded almost to be taunting the old fans--The "Beloved" World of Enroth. Huh?

Is there really any way to look at this other than an attempt to not only separate themselves from the source material, but to also piss on its grave? It seems to me like they have gotten arrogant; as though the primary enjoyment derived from these games isn't any little fan-service they can give, which invariably involves references to the old universe.

This has been a rant, yes. But understand that I have been playing these games since I was 6 years old, and now it feels like Ubisoft is forgetting the series' roots in a profoundly disrespectful way.

Not to be rude.. but all that post was about is..

Point one: Ubi does not work with hobits in their world

Point two: Look HOBIT the movie is out!! And Might and Magic had hobits in it aswell for some time!!! Look at OUR page how they look like!!

Its was just a marketing move to ride on the hobit train..

Problem.. If the Movie "Black dragon upon us" was comming out and there was a huge fuss about it, they would do the same. As many other companies would...

And as for the second post. Its a fact from the games history. Did you rage when they did the Apriels fool joke with forge??

Technically speaking, ubi is correct. The world that Enroth and Antagarich was set in was destroyed and that was long before ubi took over. Guess that's ubi's way of joking around now that our world is coming to an end

Also I fail to see how respect for the old might and magic has to do anything with setting some differences from one setting to another. And for the record.. play danse macabre if you get the chance, the ending might surprise you. If someone knows don't spoil it please or do so in an hcm

There's still hope, Nibiru is right around the corner

It's a mixed up case anyway, there are as many valid complains as there are silly ones. Ubi has messed up royally on some fronts but does not deserve the blame for just about everything one hears these days. And I have heard some very silly complaints that either have no basis on reality or are too petty to even consider. But you know.. the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Don't be silly, 3DO could never have afforded to fund the total destruction of planet Earth.

What, I thought only Enroth was destroyed?
Did this happen in an expansion pack or something?

The planet Enroth got destroyed, then again a large part of its population - including many of the old-day heroes - fled to the planet Axeoth (Heroes IV, M&M IX). And there are who knows how many thousands of inhabited planets in the Web of the Worlds. So much about the old world being destroyed.

On the other hand, after Heroes V and VI, I'm somewhat glad that Ubisoft did not continue with the old world. Their lore-writing skills are terrible - and I'm being polite here - so let them **** up their own world, few people care about it anyway.

As for the halfings - they got removed along with the leprechaun and Iforgotwhatelse because the new world was supposed to be "darker". In the end even "The Hobbit" movie is darker than the darkest darkness of Ashan but with worthless authors you can get only so much.

Bottom line - let it rest.

Who knows? Maybe Enroth was only burned, not destroyed.
In the H4 intro we saw only mushroom cloud and shock wave of flames, not exploding planet. I know in the lore was mentioned many times that Enroth is destroyed but still...

The new Entoth could be a good dwelling for Kreegans - dusty, grimly (the sun is covered by black clouds), there are volcanos and lava at some places.

It can be made good story about it but I doubt if Ubi make some conections between both universes or blend them somehow in one.

Actually, judging from story of the Heroes IV Death campaign, Enroth was only made uninhabitable, not completely blown up. I think there was a point where Gauldoth had vision of Enroth where the god of death whom his master served now ruled - so if this wasn't some sort of an abstraction, it turns out that the planet itself is in one piece.

Well, if some people can spend hours arguing about why the Ashan Cerberus has only two heads, why can't I write a single post about how destroyed Enroth actually is?

well they brought back Sandro and Craig Hack,
so maybe sometime in future they will
bring back other survivors of Enroth
or even we will find out that
Axeoth still exists somewhere in the Universe

i know its mostly unlikely, but who
knows what future brings for us..)

p.s. speaking of which (Sandro and Craig Hack)
i would love to see reincarnation of Gauldoth Half-Dead!!!
or Gelu clone at least..)
