i am now signed up for college. i still have some time before i start, and in that time i will be refining the maps i plan to release before making their own thread. if i don't get any playtesters, that's fine; i just don't want to hear any snowing about the map difficulty(too easy, too hard) afterward.

hey sal, i think i got my maps ironed out now, and am in the process of testing them, but i can't test your scripts because the rar you uploaded won't open. i tried making it a zip and an exe file, and same thing. it's acting like it's a corrupted file. do you think you can send me an upload for your scripts in a different manner?

i downloaded, extracted, and rebuilt my map mod. installed it, and now era 3 won't run. the map editor with all the objects runs fine, but i can't test anything. i guess, upload crash files for bersy?

also, these scripts don't work on era 1.8 either, so i'm dead in the water atm.

If you downloaded Era 3 from Bersy's  Era thread, it comes without the engine - the scripts. So nothing can run unless you download WoG scriptsn whose link I have no clue. He fuc*ed Era 3, welcome to the club.

the original wog scripts are in era 3, just in a different place. they're in their own mod folder, and they've been renamed(though, in the scripts themselves, everything appears unchanged). there are 3 wog scripts where i changed the object names and descriptions, but not the scripts themselves, that i added to my map mod, under the new naming convention bersy used. still, era 3 won't run with my mod added to the lineup. i'll try contacting bersy in his thread(and via hcm, in case he has email notification set up), and see if i can't get this straightened out. era 3 ran fine before, so it's gotta be with my mod.

edit: found the launch problem, and it was a simple one. my mod had to be at the top of the mod list in the text file. so, that's fixed. BUT: now that i can run era 3, i find 2 more issues(one for sal, and one for bersy):

1. a. the scripts don't all work as intended. for instance, when fighting in the dragon arena, you get the same dragon utopia opening message. and at the end of the fight, you still are rewarded the same as you would a dragon utopia(instead of just incremental gold based on the creatures you fought).

  b. with the eggs, the creature that hatches is what the player interacts with, instead of a possible parent defending the egg. so, instead of always getting a creature to add to the army regardless of if it is guarded or not, sometimes you have to fight the creature without gaining one.

  c. lastly, one small point to make on the barrels: how can they be made to disappear more gradually, like you would normally see with a resource? they just *pop* out of existence suddenly, of which the effect seems less natural.



2. somewhere in the era 3 files, there is a conflict, because with my mod at the top of the list, it replaces what's needed to run the game, but certain files are superceded by the typical wog versions, and i can't seem to find where the dominant files to be overwritten are. i'll contact bersy about this, as this is the last thing in my way in that respect.

Mod structure is correct, good job. I suggest removing from fred.pac all pcx,fnt,h3c, pal files as I suppose none of them is customized (some pcx maybe?) so they burden the mod size without reason. Keep only the txt files you modified, all the others you can safely delete.

Also you have to delete all scripts from maps, leave only regular events.

I will fix the scripts.

some of the pcx files were what was replaced unexpectedly while trying to run era. creature image files, specifically. nearly all of what was included, was worked on, minus most of the image files from the bitmap.lod that i included in the pac(which had no issues afterward, regardless).

anything i added to the mod should have overwritten anything standard, as i customized quite a bit.

what gets me is, i swapped out all the work i did for both the wog lods, and the era lods, after my mod didn't display correctly; so there shouldn't have been anything at all other than my work displayed in the end product. and yet, still a file priority conflict somewhere. everything i did SHOULD have me seeing what i made in era 1.8, in era 3.


and yes, i worked on the palette files as well(as i have worked on a few player colors). the font files and campaign bitmap images(the bulk of the h3bitmap.lod) were probably the only thing i haven't worked on.

As far as I see, everything works. Try to remove all pcx you didn't change, as well as other files like campaigns etc. 500+ Mo for a mod may discourage people.

I don't understand your request about eggs. There is option implemented fight creature, no reward as egg is empty, try to restart test map multiple times as is percentage based (so random) as you asked.

Fixed utopias. Added random pickup sound for the barrels so it feels similar to flotsams. I can't make the flotsam animation, is not erm based so this is the closest solution.

i hope those are just the scripts you posted a link to. the mod isn't ready to be released yet.

the eggs are supposed to be guarded sometimes by a parent. instead, you have the player fighting the hatchling. big difference. you're supposed to possibly fight FOR the creature; not fight the creature itself. the eggs should be a guaranteed creature possible addition(left up to the player).

thanks for your continued help. once the scripts get made, i will be able to script other similar things myself be analyzing your code.

the creature is always supposed to join the hero, regardless of what comes before. hence the guarded/unguarded by a parent creature option.

Replace with text saying the egg hatches and you find a creature inside.
