This whole thing has been going for years and in the end it's indeed about who has the better hackers. Huawei and ZTE (telecom equipment manufacturers) have been under investigation for some time. Provided that a nice percentage of pretty much every hardware on the market - US or no US - comes from China, you either accept the risks or find another price + productivity paradise to buy parts from (which currently doesn't quite exist). The Chinese themselves don't really deny such accusations, they just say that they're not the only ones doing it. Exhibit X. So yeah, get better defenses and batter hackers, that's the only feasible option at the moment.
