The backing up is not secret, of course, you can also turn it off. But it's quite possible, you constantly back up all kinds of data and do not fiddle with your phone settings all the time, so your default setting may very well be auto-back up. It's very practical if you have more than one device. It's not something overwhelmingly incautious or careless, at least it wasn't until now.

I still believe this is some elaborate ruse/publicity stunt. I find it incredulous that these actresses, as famous as they are and as hounded as they are by the media (paparazzi, going through garbage, phone hacking etc), would - 1) even download a nude image or movie unless they wanted it found; 2) be that dumb.
We are talking about the cut throat movie business. Most of these 'actresses' have very little real talent. They are all vying for attention. (We've already had staged 'sex tapes' that were also amazingly 'leaked'. I mean Kardashian and Hilton made a careers off of those.) It must be like a girl factory in Hollywood. How far are you going to go to be famous. You can't keep singing 'High School Musicals' at 35.
Plus actresses are not discussed regarding their acting, its their image, their body, their hair etc etc. Its hardly acting. So the leaking of a few 'made to look authentic' nudie photo's will only help them along in the 'Hotness' stakes.
The stars agents themselves have already confirmed that the pictures 'are authentic', which is very weird. Most people would claim the pictures were fakes - no one would know. I mean you can type in 'Oprah riding Clooney covered in bees' into Google and be amazed at what you see. But is it real?? Ha, course not.
And why is it only a few?? Women takes literally hundreds of pictures of themselves on mobiles every damn day. So where are the ugly ones, the goofy ones, the 'stupid face caught at wrong time' pic's, the duck faces?
I honestly believe what has been 'leaked' are either real, photo-shopped pictures of the actresses or fake composite pictures - that have been leaked on purpose.
I know how a woman's mind works and believe me when I say this, there is not a woman alive who has photographed herself naked unless she was well prepared for it, worked out for it, and intended to use it to prove what a Goddess she is.

Actually, one of them denied the authenticity of the pictures and in a matter of hours, photo experts claimed otherwise and put proof on the net that they weren't fake. So, that's not true.'Oprah riding Clooney covered in bees' and similar stuff is intentionally unrealistic, that's different.
And it's only a few, obviously because they were the ones the hackers thought worthy of spreading around. You hack iCloud, you have millions of photos, those are the ones they handpicked to "publish".

Yes one of the actresses agents claimed the pictures were fake. And most people would have tried that excuse. So I find it really dubious that all the other agents are claiming that yes these photo's are all genuine.
I have just checked online and seen a load of pictures of Kate Upton and Jennifer Lawrence supposed naked pictures. Well they were porn pictures. Not snap shoots. Composite porn pictures. Some of them are so obviously fake as they look like they have been altered by a 7 year old, but others are pretty damn realistic looking. And the real clever ones don't do overt porn picture posing etc.

lol, you must not visit the craigslist "casual encounters" section much. there are some hideous-ass women out there, who have no problem taking pictures of themselves nude. not to mention, all the hideous-ass porn out there, made for people who live out of the sunlight(hopefully). 
let's not forget, in this day and age of myspace, facebook, reality t.v., etc.; EVERYONE is a movie star/rock star/rapper/model. all you have to do to be good-looking these days, is make a duckface. 
edit: nevermind. you already know about the duckface. you're halfway there, beautiful.

All experts can do is confirming the authenticity of the photo, not the content on the photo. If someone photoshops an image, there may e.g. be an irregular discontinuity in the color transition for the given camera in question. No one can say for sure if the people on the photos are actually those they look to be, or lookalikes, only that the actual images hasn't been manipulated, nothing about what the image is about.

You are right, I've never been on Craigslist. But you are also right about women taking photo's of themselves and believing that they look like something they are not. That was something I would have mentioned myself, but I get halfway through a post and start to wander mentally lol.
That is partly what I mean when I said that a woman does not post a picture of herself online unless she wants interest. Which is why I know that this 'scandal' is BS.

Deliberately, no. But I may not change my back-up settings for each photo or occasion. I mean, a few girls had sent me pictures on Facebook chat or Skype and those can be hacked, too. It's just about the flow of the moment.
Elizabeth Taylor had her naked "composite" pictures taken by a photographer friend of hers, it was something she wanted to do. The guy never released them until she was dead.
People can have naked pictures of themselves that they don't want for public, for many casual reasons. And the way technology is now, all this communication and storage on the net is so embedded in our every minute, we practically walk around with little computers in our pockets that are 24/7 on-line.
