I have several questions
1: why does this topi even exist?
2: Why is i made in the way it is?
3: Why are unit  migrations not taken into account?
4: Why is it in the H7 section (We had a very similar topic in the H6 section at it's time)?
5: Why aren't Landsknech and Justicara in the H1/H2 paladin and H1-H5 swordman trees when they, based on appearence and even some abilities, would fit there?
6: Why are there all town screens, units but only one hero?
7: What is this suppose to tell us?
...

I'll stop for now.. Sry if the tone is a bit hard.

My subjective opinion on the looks of the units are that the best looking units of HoMM 2, such as e.g. the Phoenix, are the units with the best looks overall. But on average HoMM 3, followed by HoMM 5 have the best looking units.

Dave_Jame said:

Or lack of neutrals, or at least neutrals still allied with the given town.

Unit migration is some of the most interesting stuff in the game, because it tells the story of how successful each faction was in its predecessor.. to some extent.

HoMM 2 (and 1), Warlocks have the most powerful units and are the bad guys in this game. What has happened to them in the next installment? They've lost most of their very strong units, units so strong that in the following installment they become top of their tier (Centaur, Griffin, ..and of course Hydra isn't top of tier 6, because it gets to be a tier 7 unit).

The Warlock units moves around a lot.
Centaur: Warlock -> Rampart (Sorc) -> Might (Barb)
Gargoyle: Warlock -> Tower (Wiz) -> Death (Necro)
Griffin: Warlock -> Castle (Knight) -> Nature (Sorc)
Hydra: Warlock -> Fortress -> Chaos (Warlock)

To me this indicates that while they generally have some of the best units, they also tend to be the big losers when it comes to the wars. In HoMM 2 they're the big bad guys, in HoMM 3 they're allied with the big bad guys.

There's also the potential interesting history behind the dragons. We sadly had a maybe bit too big dragon invasion with the Armageddons Blade expansion to HoMM 3, but some dragons do carry on and their past installments have their stories as well. The Green Dragon goes from Warlock to Rampart (Sorc), the Necromancer have their Skeleton Dragon and the Fearie Dragon goes from Neutral to joining the forces of Nature (Sorc). Yet the Black Dragon (and the Minotaur) is a stable pillar in the mess that is the Warlock town.

Edit: Not to mention that Sorc / Rampart / Nature / Preserve seems to be a haven for many units as new units move in and old units out to temporary towns such as Conflux, or finding better suited places, but their original units never leave them "forever", or go to a town of opposite alignment, like with the Warlock town.
Which allows for a faction with two different highly praised 7th level units (Phoenix & Dragon) and of course stable units in the Elves and Unicorns.

ummm ... ?? Usefull how? so you don't need to go to heroes wiki or some other internet sites? Also im sure i saw something similar posted already (not to mention i own most heroes games...). It's just comparison of art styles and hero screens in deferent games - interasting it may be, but usefull? (unless you're maybe art designer and want to make next hero unit that captures all previous styles...).

Now i dont wanna soud like im being harsh or have something against anyone - as i said it is interasting to see same units from diferent games next to eachother i guess. And also nice effort for long post.

Now ... about ruining a series ... even if that was possible (which isn't) i don't see it from here. Is newer art style worse than old one? maybe... not for everybody.

yes i did - and i didn't like it much ... but i still fail to see how other games in series would somehow get "ruined" coz of it

is H3 worse that it was after H6 came out? No ... am i forbiden or restricted to playing H2, H3, or H5 ? mo ... So H6 wasn't great entry - but why would it devaluate other games in series. If anything it lets me enjoy those games even more.

but that's another topic - i agree with post above - there's not much more to discuss about this thread's topic

To note: In H4, Death faction aka Infernopolis is not really pure necro but a mix 50/50 of Inferno and Necropolis.
They blended two factions in one.

Owning all 7 Heroes games

The way I see this differences chart is:

That Heroes 2 saved the franchise from the obvious flop of Heroes 1 and, Heroes 5 saved the franchise, once more, from the series of flop-like disasters from Heroes 4.

So, obviously, Heroes 7 will save the day, again, as for the Heroes 6's major disaster.

Heroes 1, 2 and, 3 are U.S.A. made games in its outmost cyber glory years of the 1990's.

Heroes 4 is where all the technological and financial crises happened throughout the 5 first years of the very start of the post Y2K's time period. Also, when, an explosion of graphical outburst of will to explore the CGI-3D appearances within the PC gaming market.

Heroes 5 got outsourced to the Russians due to the fallout of both NWC and 3DO's developer and publisher's attempts to sell their screwed up software of Heroes 4 + Expansions. Ubisoft had bought it and Nival interactive did their best at fully reviving the dying franchise. Heroes 5 up to version 3.1 is an undenying success that still lives on, 9 years after the vanilla edition was released.

Ubisoft screws up developer deals with Nival and, Blackhole Entertainment that sees the premature release of Heroes 6 at the start of the 2nd decade of the 21st century.

Now, Ubisoft is attempting to do the impossible by doing what should have been possible half a decade ago and, will, be, a possible redemption with this German group of developers. Heroes 7 is set to be, once again, another savior to the Might and Magic Heroes Series.

Hope that you, all, enjoyed, reading this biography of how the history has unfolded and, how history tends to repeat itself, over and over, again.
