G.I. Joe

Bort, you tugged at some of my heartstrings.

This thread shall be devoted to all things G.I. Joe.

Personally, I loved Cobra.  They had the coolest characters...Destro, Storm Shadow, Firefly(who was really a ninja in fatigues), Zartan, Tomax & Xamot, the list goes on.

Am I the only one who thinks that the uniform for the Crimson Guard was inspired by Palpatine's personal guard?

Am I the only one who came to the conclusion that Australians were idiots because of the Dreadnoks?

Spill your guts you Joephiles.

Well, in the "I'm a wierdo" category, I really liked the sailor guy.  I think he was called "shipwreck" or something like that.  The reason I liked him is because he had one of those old school double barreled pistols.  I thought that meant he had twice as much firepower, I didn't realize that it just meant he was an idiot bringing an antique weapon to a fully automatic fight.

Destro's backpack was the coolest of the early figure accesories because you could hold a pistol in it!!!!!! It was interactive!!!!

I had the F-14.  That was one of my prides and joys.  Only got it because someone was insane enough to sell it at a garage sale.  Never got the A-10 (which, if I remember correctly, they claimed was a VTOL craft...) or the cool black Cobra plane with the little glider that detached.  Sigh...

However, my greatest regret was that I never got the hooded cobra commander.

I also had a crush on Scarlet.  Not Lady Jane, though.  Didn't like her.

I'm convinced that all of the Joe leadership, especially Duke were gay.  Why were all of their officers such prats?

Let me get this right you guys had a crush on a cartoon character? or a figurine? And I thought I was mad!

GI JOE never really impacted as much here in the UK though some of the characters Bort mentions seem to be in something called action force. Is that the same?

Dude, when you're 5, the only females you can relate to in a non-trying-to-run-away-when-they-try-to-kiss-you way (WHAT was I thinking????  When I was in high school I would have killed to have the girls act the way they did in kindergarten.) are the ones in cartoons.  I don't think it had any lasting psychological effect.  Of course, the fiancee is a redhead, so maybe...

Yea Action Force is the same. Maybe it was by that name in all Europe, at least here in Finland too.

Scarlet was the total babe.  Lady Jane had that short hair and her voice sounded like Bonnie Tyler or a young Janice Joplin.

The A-10 was VTOL.  It's ace pilot was Wild Weasel.

I had the A-10.  I've forgotten its name though.  It was also my pride and joy.  The G.I. Joe Skystriker I hated.  They always blew my planes out of the sky...Amazing that those Cobra pilots were always able to eject.

Speaking of gay leadership, even my buddy whooped it up when Duke got shot in the heart by one of Serpentor's snakes.  I can't believe he had a full recovery.

Hooded Cobra Commander was really cool too.  If I remember correctly, you could only send in for him(at least in the states) with x amount of money and a couple UPC symbols.

I'd forgotten about Destro's backpack being able to hold his pistol.

Storm Shadow's backpack also opened up.  You couldn't fit anything inside but you saw his arrows.

And Privatehudson, hell yeah I had a crush on several cartoon characters.

I even like Cleo from the Heathcliff cartoons.  Man, that hair and man oh man, those legwarmers.

I ripped his arms out of his sockets & took out one leg.
I think my brother kicked my butt for it lol.

With the movie coming out, I have but two things to say :

1. Scarlet is still hot.

2. I never thought of the baroness as a sex symbol.  She always seemed to be more of a pre-op MtoF trannie.  I stand corrected.
