We weren't "beaten" by the indians, we were forced into handing back the empire by a series of events triggered by the japanese invasions (who were very much fighting thank you), american policy post WWII and a total lack of political will to fight all over the globe to hang onto a decaying and expensive empire.

So we did make you lose your empire than?

No, we decided it would be better to accept the terms you offered post war aid on...... namely the disolving of the empire. So if you want to be pedantic about it germany, italy and japan in forcing WWII and therefore bankrupting Brtian, or ourselves in getting involved in WWII in the first place was the real reason. Then you have the fact that the labour government traditionally didn't like the empire, our lack of global power post WWII, Russian policy post WWII etc

I must congratulate your ability to reduce a complex subject into 1 issue in an attempt to prove your point though...... well done

Took me a while, but I looked in Webster's

and found the definition for this:

someone's having trouble remembering Canada methinks..... which btw is much bigger than america is it not? Did you take that off us in the revolution?  Or did you take it off us in 1812?  Or do you suck at geography so bad that you can't remember that North America includes Canada?

Or does your history serve you so badly that you can't even remember that you couldn't beat the few british troops we sent there without the aid of the French? If you couldn't beat our mercenaries, and local troops in your own country without european support I doubt you'd have ever beaten us

Besides, given all the idiots living in america these days, I say we were glad to be shut of you lot. Why in god's name would we want to be one of you? I'd rather be greek or australian or something. Foresight I'd call it

1. n Feeble rebuttal.

But that's ok......we promise not to dump anymore of your tea  [Old folk tales say it tasted a heckofalot better after it soaked in saltwater for a few days, btw]

'Sides, your country produced the best metal band to ever exist (Judas Priest), so you can't be all that bad.

Ha! The French! how great of an ally was that!?
Yeah they did help us but not really as much as you think that much.
Also If you look at the total Casualties There were more of you dead then us.
Why? because you guys were marching in a straight line wearing freakin' red pantyhose, while our guys were practically sniping you.
And Canada? Do you really think we care about Canada? Yeah it may be bigger but it's too cold up north even to be useful.

Ahhhh, its nice to see that trying to teach us thickheaded Americans has turned into a frustrating lesson in futility.

Just a few notes on Canada, Although it is slightly larger than the US, the map you are looking at has latitude lines that grow further apart the further noth you go,(or did you think that greenland was actually that big?)

90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US,(They keep sneaking across the boarder but we kindly give them a beer which they promply spit out and go scurrying back to Canuckland, one of the only good reasons to stock up on Bud)

If it wasn't for strong beer and tittie bars every ten yards the cultural influence of Canada on the world would be the superfluous eh, eh.

I am American, and I know absolutley nothing about Cananda, other than it is north of us, and it is cold and snowy (so they say), that just shows how great our education system is.

*sighs* Take a look at the armies at yorktown... 1/2 of the forces on your side were french! We wouldn't have even been besieged but for the french. And then there's the whole issue of the supplies for our troops in yorktown being sent by sea. Stopped by the FRENCH navy, forcing us to surrender... never would have happened without the FRENCH.

Uhmmmmmmmmm a generalisation methinks, a fairly large part of our army were german or local troops, who in the main didn't wear red.... and included some of our own snipers

Yeah, you didn't want canada, you just invaded it in 1812 in an attempt to conquer it.... or paid irish forerunners of the IRA to invade it sometime later. Both of which failed, dismally I may add

Oh and like Peacemaker said, some of us may just have figured out that bullying other nations was a bad thing and not been "beaten" as such, but just had enough

At first I was confused why someone would apparently be bragging about being defeated by the FRENCH!

Then I realized how difficult that must have actually been.  I can picture the negotiations quite clearly:

Cornwallis : We would like to discuss terms of surrender.

French soldier : Oui!  We surrender!

Long pause.

Cornwallis : Um...  I don't think you understand, we wish to surrender to you.

French soldier: Oh, of course, pardon, it was, how you say, force of habit.  I will go fetch mon capitain.

(Exit French soldier.  Enter French captain.)

French captain : We surrender!

Cornwallis : Dammit!  You're not getting it.  YOU have US surrounded.  YOU have cut off OUR supplies.  WE are laying down our arms and surrendering to YOU.

French captain : Pardon?  You do not wish us to surrender to you?

Cornwallis : Well, I suppose I would, but that's just not the way things work.  Look, go get your commanding officer and maybe the two of us can sort this out.

(Exit French captain.  Enter French general)

French general : I surrender!

Cornwallis : Oh for cryin' out...  I keep trying to explain to you that...

(Enter French admiral)

French admiral : I understand that there is surrendering going on.  I, too, would like to surrender unconditionally.

French general : No no, I surrendered first, you cannot steal my surrender glory you silly sailor person.

Cornwallis : Maybe I should go find one of the colonials to discuss surrender with...

LOL!

Even I have to laugh at that

To be fair the french were probably more than a little confused because your troops kept firing their cannons at the French army rather than the British one and claiming they were wearing the wrong uniforms or something

Though as a side note I think it actually went something like Cornwallis went to surrender his sword to montcalm and Montcalm said to give it to Washington (or whover colonial was in charge I don't recall) instead as he would not accept it, something to do with the colonial leader being more deserving.

Oh and the french of the 1700's were damn fine soldiers I wasn't bragging about it either, I was pointing out that you couldn't win the revolution alone, you needed friends and probably wouldn't have won it but for the french.

Kinda reminds me of a bit of Bridge too far:

With his troops surrounding Arnhem Bridge, his tanks and artillery ready to smash the defending british airborne soilders and his forces more than treble the defenders numbers, the german commander considedered it humane to give the British a chance to surrender. He sent an interpreter across under a white flag

Interpreter: My general suggests surrender in order to prevent further bloodshed
Frost(overall british commander): Oh hell tell him to get lost
Tantham Warner (company commander): I'm sorry we simply don't have the facilities to accept you all

The german guy couldn't work out if the british were using humour on him or being serious........

First of all, I vigorously deny that I am in anyway pedantic.  I have no sexual interest in feet whatsoever.  Except when they're nice feet.  With tiny breast implants.  And little socklike lingerie....

Pure comic genius.  Great wit, boys.  Thanks for making my day.

Oh yeah, I forgot the remainder of the traditional punishment.  You will further be demilitarized, demoralized, denounced, defrocked, defamed, denigrated, deforested, dematerialized, disturbed, disarmed, dis-legged, disembowelled, desecrated, desiccated, detoxified, decontaminated, decompensated, decompressed, debriefed, decaffeinated, deregulated, defiled, deflated, deranged, deflowered, spayed and/or neutered, and then sentenced to Delaware for a decade.
