Bad: Isometric, armies withot heroes, having to build mines over resources.
Good: Diplomacy, the one thing missing from HOMM3.
Heroes 4

Well, I can't say I'm ecstatic. I'll have to read a review before I but the game.

Diplomacy...
Diplomacy would make many happy I would think. Games like Age of Wonders and such have this option and I think it makes the game more interesting.

Some type of diplomacy or tribute system...
I think some type of diplomacy system is workable for H4. I'd like to see a system of alliances that can be entered into, and you can't attack without a one turn warning- unless you sneak attack which automatically breaks all treaties you have and you can't make any new treaties- including trade treaties which I would love to see in the game and really discourage people from sneak attacks.
Also some way to get extra resources from computer or human players before they die, as it stands now all resources they owned except strutures are lost- I think if you capture a capitol a certain amount of resources should also be captured, and if you capture the very last town of a player, then you get 50% of all remaining resources.

Good and Evil communicating
This could be done the same way as in Age of Wonders. In it there were 4 good, 4 neutral and 4 evil races. And the alliance between a good and an evil race was a really hard thing. On the other side, the neutrals could have alliance with everyone (and I thnk that it's easier to play with one of the neutrals - you can have no enemies). How can this work in HoMM4?
Good towns - Haven and Academy
Neutral towns - Stronghold and Preserve
Evil towns - Asylum and Necropolis
You can make an alliance if:
1-send resources to another player
2-have one town which is the same as yor opponent's town
3-fight against your possible ally's enemies
Or maybe it becomes rather complicated?

Good and Evil? It's more complicated than that in H4
Diplomacy would be a very powerful thing in a heroes game, especially when dealing with the AI. Something like was done in Warlords would be good, where your actions affected how the computer players thought of you. And, of course, attacking without declaring war a turn ahead of time made everybody nervous about you. You could even turn on an ally, but in that case your diplomacy rating with other players was pretty much shot. When directly asked about this, someone at NWC (Mara, I think) said no diplomacy at this time. But it wasn't ruled out as an expansion idea.
As far as communicating between alignments, remember that it's a bit more complicated in Heroes 4. It's all about the schools of magic: Life, Nature, Chaos, Death, and Order, with Might being in the middle. And each of the 5 schools has two allies, and two opponents. For instance, the Academy (Order) is aligned with Life and Death (Haven and Necropolis), and opposed by Chaos and Nature (Asylum and Preserve). So, to use Wyvern's idea, you could easily ally with similar alignments, but it would be nearly impossible to have an alliance between opposing alignments. In other words, a Haven could ally with an Academy or Preserve, but never a Necropolis. And that same Academy and Preserve could not ally with each other. And meanwhile, the barbarians sit in the middle, merrily making deals with anyone they want to.
