The biggest Army I ever beat in one combat of H3 was 7 units of 9999 Titans defending a castle. The map was Asmirith and around 1/2 of all castles were legion defended. My army at that time though had something like 4,000 black dragons, 6000 titans, 1500 cyclops and 3,000 Power Lichs. Clone, Mass slow and beserk works wonders, but to be effective you need expert Fire(?) magic to get beserk to work as you can get 4 units in one.

An interesting battle requiring a little forethought...

Human: Dessa, stats all 99, all battle spells available except for berserk.
Secondary skills (all expert level): logistics, archery, earth magic, water magic, air magic, offence, tactics, wisdom.
Artifacts: Angelic Alliance, Cape of Velocity, Ring of the Wayfarer, Golden Bow, Bowstring of Unicorn's Mane, Spirit of Oppression, Hourglass of Evil Hour, Ammo Cart.
Army: 292 Archangels, 847 Ancients, 84 Azures, 1292 Archdevils, 697 Titans, 784 Chaos Hydrae, 2417 Mighties.

Comp: Sir Mullich (in castle), stats all 99, expert cure and clone (preset, hence no wisdom required).
Secondary skills (all expert level): water magic, armourer, offence, archery, tactics, luck, leadership, intelligence.
Artifacts: Armour of the Damned, Cape of Velocity, Ring of the Wayfarer, Necklace of Swiftness, Shackles of War, Clover of Fortune, Still Eye of the Dragon, Bow of the Sharpshooter, Ammo Cart, Ballista.
Army: 7200 Enchanters, 2400 Archangels, 1200 Faerie Dragons, 900 Rust Dragons, 600 Azures.

Figure it out, it's not too hard - no casualties allowed, obviously

Good point, I almost forgot - Sir Mullich also has a deadly First Aid Tent

Anyway, the battle can be won without losses - just think before you move (or cast, for that matter)

you could cast force field around 2 units or dunno how many fit in there and protect those, but the others are lost arent they...at least no quick solution comes to my mind

Force field would be quite useless since the Enchanters would have the time of their lives shooting you down (Bow of the Sharpshooter + Expert Archery = PAIN). And what about the Faerie Dragons? If they cast Chain Lightning then it's curtains for poor old Dessa

Two hints:

1) There is only one random factor involved - ignore it

2) Remember you're playing against the AI. The AI is a mental pigmy

Well, as I said you should rule out the only possible random factor in order to come up with a perfect solution - look carefully at the armies and figure it out. That is the first step. The second step is a consequence of the first step. In theory the AI could easily counter this second step but it won't because, as MadMartigan aptly put it, AI = Artificial Idiot

No, Dessa's army is powerful enough to allow for half a dozen or so freezes so there's really no need to take Azure's special into account. Look carefully - it's right there

ROFL!

Neutralize the most dangerous stack - immediately. The stack that could - potentially - strike five of your stacks in one go...

Be back later - dinner time.

My solution is fairly simple and exploits a bug.

Dessa simply has the Angelic Alliance (and probably also the Spirit of Oppression and Hoursglass of the Evil Hour) in the Backpack, as in NEVER equipped.

This will keep her stats at 99, 99, 99, 99. Equipping the Angelic Alliance will drop the stats to 20, 20, 20, 20. (When a stat goes over 100, my experience is that it becomes like 0 and not like 100.)

The computer will however equip Armour of the Damned so Sir Mullich's stats will be very low.

All my creatures will now do maximum damage to all Sir Mullich's creatures and Sir Mullich's creature will do minimum damage to all of mine.

Random factors? Both sides will have poor morale and units may freeze. For any spells cast on the Fairy Dragons you risk Magic Mirror.

Hehe, nice idea

No, there aren't any bugs to exploit here, just the AI's outrageous idiocy. Dessa's stats reach +99 including the Angelic Alliance's boni. Also, stats do not automatically reset to zero once they exceed +99 - in the map including this battle Dessa already has attack over +80 without a single AA component. I think the threshold may be 114 (as in Heroes II, if I'm not mistaken), which the computer probably stores but doesn't obviously show. I'll have to test it.
