The Sun Crusader's jousting however does seem to work indeed as the damage he deals when charging is higher than the displayed value (which is presumably his base damage).

But when I run the game and it checks for updates, it doesn't find any.....that's why I thought I had the latest patch..

I mean I downloaded that 500MB file on the patch in the beginning...

The 500MB patch was the 1.1, not the 1.1.1. You must launch the game with gu.exe (should even make a shortcut and only run the game through this).
