I have a fantastic idea! Stickmaster -> swordmaster.
Basic unit has mastered the art of fighting with a stick and by the time it is upgraded it is ready to use a real sword

Wolf Knight sounds excellent
Wolf Champion, on the other hand, feels a bit 'forced', since you are naming 'champion' a creature in champion tier...
...Wolf Knight/Wolf Swordmaster sounds better to me. What do you think?

A Wolf-something name would be good if the unit has some connection to the wolfs (synergy or some ability), but what if the unit doesn't have this connection (except that it is from Wolf Duchy)?
Veteran -> Master Swordman
Enforcer -> Executor/Executioner
Guerrilla -> Partisan
Sergent -> Commander
Devotee -> Zealot
Fervid/Ardent Knight -> Fanatic Knight
Frantic Knight -> Frenzied Lord
Knight Errant -> Knight Banneret
Knight Banneret -> Grand Master
or some other combination of the given names...

Since this Haven is based on the Wolf Duchy, it's representative of the Wolf Duchy, it makes sense.
Wolf Executioner or Wolf Vindicator also sound great to me.

Excellent suggestion Adrius, Vindicator being an older unit wielding a sword and being all angry and **** is a nice reference, and Justiciar as a BRINGER OF RIGHTEOUS BURNING JUSTICE is of course amazingly fitting as well.

The answer is, because it's called Swordbearers, and not Herculeses, Achilleses, Odysseuses or Sigurds.
And while Swordbearer is on par with Axewielder, Bowshooter, Netswinger, Cottonpicker or Beerdrinker, it's still a galaxy better than Magic (Arcane) Bird, which is no name, but a description, and sounds like "We-want-to-have-a-powerful-bird-but-it-can't-be-T-Bird-or-Phoenix-because-those-are-already-defined-and-there-is-no-other-good-name".
It's like naming the Swordbearer "Strong Human", upgrade: Powerful Human.
They could at least call it Fairy Roc or something like that.

About those poor creatures by the way... may i suggest "Magicwing-Arcanewing"?
