Modded Map Showcase

So, I have seen a lot of the created objects with techniques I occassionally helped them sdevelop (before I went offline) and added them to the next version of my mod. If I remember correctly these are by Karmakeld and Radmutant69

However, what I have not seen is these objects being used in creative mapping!

So, I will share some screenshots, so that I can inspire people to make their own maps. These maps will be released with the next version of Greatest Mod.

I encourage people to make more maps with the new objects, since now we have more chances than ever for creative mapping.

Something interesting is all the Horror-themed objects and the lower lighning we can achieve with them. Pretty terrifying.

where to host photos

(some of these objects are actually animated, so it doesn't look static ingame)

Dark crypt + dark forest with ruins.

Something I discovered other mappers may use is that "ugly" objects that don't fit in with normal H4 or backgrounds can still fit with eachother and custom backgrounds.

Some of these objects have a rather ugly black outline due to inferior 90's sprite technology when the resources were originally made. Some also have no shadow or displaced shadows. As such, they look bad in normal H4 settings. But, as the original developers probably discovered, with a dark enpugh background (such as this custom overlay), they can still look good. The darkness makes the outline blend and become harder to notice, shadow is unnecesary in the dark, and displaced shadows are harder to spot.

Who knows when that is, tho :V

Meanwhile,

even if the festive themes and cartoony styles aren't my deal, I wanted to showcase a bit of everything doable with radmutant69 and karmakeld objects, which are not only creepy or cool but also "funny". So here you go.

And the seas!

new adventure objects

I apologise that I was only reading and observing your posts, but I definitely vote and absolutely agree with these new objects, they give a new look.
Nimo, is it possible to add also those new creatures like (skeleton king),from Mirage I think,on combat map?
Or perhaps can it be created a new campaign with the help of these new adventure objects, but I suggest modding the game slowly step by step and then to see what to select or choose or which new object is more properly for a new story of new campaign.

I don't know if those new creatures have Map sprites now that I think about it. I think Mirage only did the *combat* sprites of their new creatures... thus sadly, someone should make the small map sprites to use them in the map. Unless you want them to appear as giants...

I had an idea for a custom campaign. But for the moment these maps are only showcases, they don't have full functionality (Some objects do have function, but the map does not have a scripted story or coherent enemies.)

My idea for a campaign involves a player making deals with five demons in order to get all five magics one by one, and then take on heavens to get back the life of a departed loved one.

Your story of planned campaign is alright. I thank you.

Well new campaign ideas were in progress on several occasions but it's hard to attract and keep the interest of committed map makers, sadly. But nice displays.
Edit: in all fairness credit for most of the displayed new objects should go to Mirage.

Well I did not remember that but thanks for clarifying.

However many were in folders called "radmutant69 objects". I think therefore both have roughly equal weight?

Anyone can be a comitted mapmaker in a mapmaking util as simple as the h4 one

I actually found H5 campaign editor unworkable in comparison, as I did most 3D ones :V

I find that there's somewhat of a difference between making a single map and making campaigns, though I agree the map editor is easy to get started with, however again engaging in more complex scripting is a time consuming task as well as balancing a map/campaign. I believe this is where most map makers tends to drop off..

That is true. But that also depends on the mapmaker's ambition for their campaign/s.

Basic campaigns that come with H3 and H4 only have pretty minimal scripting, with a lot of it being just story writing without much game mechanics.

Since people found these official campaigns engaging enough, I would think it's not as hard to make new ones on the same vein.

Specially since having map brushes means much easier mapmaking, thus more time can be dedicated to writing.

In any case, I do agree that balancing custom is tricky. However, this can also be minimized using vainilla gameplay.

The maps can be blander with less unique gameplay, but default campaigns for Heroes are mostly like that to begin with.

There is a Might and Magic Browser (?) -haven't tested but seems so from their description- MMO with isometric graphics that might be good to import, although obtaining those graphics clean would be a problem

Still, some flash games and such have graphics that can be extracted, it is a matter of a savvy person going to look.

Imo the online might and magic heroes have quite good graphics, but as you write extracting and editing likely isn't an easy task. Editing from screen dumps would be quite time consuming, though the scenaries in the does offer quite a few themes.. the rest is quite alot of reused graphics from H6 and H7, especially the creatures.

The problem with using screenshots is, if there is so much "lighting effects" as in some of those screens, the graphics won't look good on a light-neutral setting like H4. Unless the lighting effects can be somehow turned off either from game options or some RAM editor like "cheat engine".

Are the creatures Sprites or 3D models? because if they are Sprites, then it's not the same as h7 or h6, even if they were rendered from the same models... they are 2.5D isometric images and that, if they can be extracted, is exactly what we need.

Though from the images I see they are far too small for H4, maybe in actuality they are larger as these images seem like they could be downscaled from full screen. Also, there could be "giant boss creatures" and things like that, yes?

Just click the images to view screenshot of the battlescene.
They do have bosses, but they vary in size a I recall. Some are large, some normal.
Given this is a different company working on the online game than who did H6 and H7 likely they didn't reuse the exact models, but I meant the design and the creatures in the game are the same as in H6 and H7.
Not sure how you can extract something from an online game...?

"online" is just a name, these kind of games download all assets to your browser, your computer is doing all of the graphics processing work and for that it needs the assets, logically. Depending on if its a java or flash game etc. specific people know how to extract it, provided it doesn't have incorporated DRM (seeing its release date and that DRM for browsers was only made available widely after, its unlikely).

Some experimental new services do all the processing including graphics out in the "cloud" and only beam video to your screen, however  those tend to be paid services as this is a high server load, and also high bandwidth required. This is not the case, so with the right knowledge graphics *could* be extracted.

As an easy and not particularly useful show, those images used as parallax effects are easy to find in page info and resources:
