Mario vs. Sonic
This is an honest question that has yet to be asked here. Out of the two major mascots of video gaming ledgend, who would prevail? Not in just the aspevt of a fight but on many diferent levals. Which world is more interesting? Which story is more compelling? Sege may not be a console producer anymore but they are still a major player in the VG world and should not be forgotten. Nintendo has rose from a simple Japanese playing card company to a major company of legendary perportians. Their mascot that was with them from the beginning is nothing more than a simple plumber with an addiction of shrooms yet this mustashed man in overalls is more reconizable than mickey mouse (from a survey in 1992). His story seems simple enough, an evil dragon-turtle...thing wants to rule so he decides to kidnap the princess and try to marry her. Mario (and Luigi, can't forget about the sidekick) rush to her aid and save the day.
Sonic, usually thought of second after Mario, got his roots long after Mario was already known. However, he quickly rose among the ranks and dazzeled players with his speed and smartass attitude. His story was the same as most others yet with a different twist. His goal wasn't just to save one person but an entire world. His planet had been taken over by a mad man who used animals as organic batteries in his robotic creations (Can we say pre-matrix?). Good idea actually. Bowser never really sucedded in his plans and soon gained the personality of a retarded seven year old. Robotnik (That was his old name. I don't know where the hell Eggman came from) actually did succeed. He took over, he captured any animals that were in his way, he created weapons of mass destruction and plowed down forrests to build his factories. Sonic was all that was left and while he may have halted any further production Robotnik continued his reign of terror elsewhere and so on and so forth.
So basically after making you read all of this hyperactive crap I just want to know where you stand between the two. Give me your reasons behind the madness.

ouch tough one there i loved both games id say sonic wins though but mario 3 is still the best game out of all sonics music stages and charator all look cooler too

For me, Mario. I played Mario for years before Sonic made his appearance. I just couldn't transfer my alleigance.
Sonic games are good for a laugh, especially 2 player with Tails, but nowhere near as intricate as the Mario games were.

Honestlt, Link never became good until the N64 games. They were truly the best. But in the Mario vs. Sonic race, Link doesn't even come close. At least on the NES/SNES systems.

second zelda kicked ass on snes a link onto the past was sweet... it definitly bested mario if they only made some more for that system...

OK I know this is a Mario vs. Sonic thread but I have to come out and say this about Zelda. Personally I am a HUGE Zelda fan. I have bought every Zelda game available in stores. The original, the SNES's the N64's and even Wind Waker. I even got all the ones on Game Boy. OK call me a freak but I don't care. But I got to come out and say Zelda for Original NES,SNES and the 1st gameboy (or pocket/color) really stuck to the original Mario games. The first game Zelda came out with that was really good was N64's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The ones before that weren't anywhere near as good. But as for the Mario vs. Sonic, I gotta go with Mario. Even if I don't support his mushroom crazed addiction .

Whoo hoo!! Go Sonic!! 
My first Sonic game was Sonic 2 for Sega Genises. Yay, old school. ^_^ Now my favorite is Sonic Adventure 2. Yay, Shadow! Yay, Chao! Anyone played that? I was so obsessed with my Chao for so long. They are so adorable. And so squishy. And they say ridiculous things like, "I don't have any bones, but I think I just broke one!" And then they cry.

originally mario was called Jumpman and jumped over barrells.
So basically he's an italian plumber who can jump.
Well there is one way to find this outcome:
In the red corner....
MARIO-
Advantages:
-Jumps

-Has overalls for defence
-Can run fast
-Funny accent

Disadvantages:
-No ranged weapons (usually)

The hedgehog and the plumber strike fighting poses!
Mario jumps in and gets the first punch off. Sonic is slow to react, but is not very happy!
Now it looks like Sonic has poked Mario in the back, giving him a strategic advantage if the poke managed to inhibit Mario's ability to jump!
WOW! What a hit! Sonic managed to knock the plumber down to the ground. It seems as though Mario got distracted by the flowers.
OH NO! It seems Mario has jumped back up, making a swift recovery!
The plumber strikes back! He's grabbed Sonic by the throat, and has him in a tight stranglehold! It really is a fine moustache, isn't it Barry?
It certainly is, Jeremy. It looks like Mario has JUMPED on top of Sonic, crushing him beneath his weight!
"Your moustache looks stupid!"
OOOOOOHHHH (booing from crowd) Barry, did he just insult Marios moustache?
I think he did, Jeremy!
Mario is furious! In his rage, he guzzled a quick flower and is now setting Sonic alight! Is this GAME OVER for the famed hedgehog?
He's not getting up, Barry!
"ONE! TWO! THREE!"
WE HAVE A WINNER!
There. Problem solved. 
Now Mario conquers the Sonic kingdom; 
and it looks like Sonic has fled:
