Kill or Accept Bribe?

Do you usually accept your enemy's surrender offer, or just kill them?

I noticed that if an enemy hero has lots of artifacts, they tend to offer you a huge sum of money, something like 15000 Gold. That's why I usually reject their surrender offer. But if it's just a few harmless units and they offer a few thousand gold, I let them go.

I've noticed that if they offer a bribe early, they usually stick around to finish the fight and you can kill 'em most times.
BUT, when you eliminate most of their army and they offer a bribe late in the battle...they tend to flee...so you might as well take the money because they'll run like the little girls they are.

...it depends on my situation, on a couple details actually. Usually though, I do let them get away. First, it's in my nature to forgive even my worst enemy for the worst of transgressions. Also, usually I need gold and if a bunch of weaklings and some level 1-3 heroes want to surrender and give me a bunch of gold, hey I'de take it

...however, if it's some punk who continually steals my resource places and harasses the border of my kingdom, or even dares to attempt a couple raids now and then, I'de mercilessly slaughter all his troops that I set my eyes on.

...oh, and if I know for sure htat my overall army is weaker than their's I simply kill them, and take the spoils of the battle...it's desperate times like those that you take all necessary measures to ensure your victory.

Sometimes you don't have the choice when the ennemy has developped the charm skill. You are forced to accept!

With the slow down of the economy you are probably better off accepting, if you yourself could use the gold.

(That is: if you have some creatures to purchase or some builds you want to make.)

Also by accepting Gold you're probably crippling the opponent's economy and preventing them from buying out all their creatures.

If for instance you fight a might troops but you know that the player mostly has Order troops then you really should let them go because it's a bad idea surrendering in the first place.

I've had one time when the Ai surrendered having 4 Phoenixes plus a few others creatures (and that was probably the opponents full army of Phoenixes, but that same opponent had some 30+ Faerie Dragons.) I was offered some 25.000 Gold, which of course I took.

Slowed down economy means it's less desirable to surrender in H4. And if the hero is the most powerful force in the army, then it's much better to just flee.

The time when you'll consider turning down a surrender is when the army has a hero which you want to capture and the troops are what makes up the bulk of the opponent's army.

I prefer to kill them just because I wanna gain some more experience. But if you do not accept their offer they may just flee to their city. And I hate it!

Take the gold!

Unless it's an extremely even game, and you can gain the edge by exterminating the army in question, why not take the money? You'll get to kick their arses anyway, you just have to wait 'till you get to their castle! So, no XP lost, and gold gained, what's there to ponder?

This choice really depends on the situation.  If it's just troops that are offering to surrender, then nine times out of ten I will let them, and take the money.  It helps my growth and hurts theirs, after all.

However, if there is a hero in the other army - and especially if there is a high level hero - I generally won't accept the surrender.  Heroes are resurrected when they surrender, and high level heroes almost always have artifacts.

Uh, one thing to consider: If you let them go, they're paying half what those creatures cost them (or something like that), so they basically get to keep otherwise lost forces at a fairly reasonable price.  If they end up fleeing, they lose those forces completely, and have to pay full price to get them back.  For that reason, surrender is not that bad an option.  If you have good troops and know you're about to lose, either hurt the enemy really badly and lose, or surrender if you can afford to.  The economic loss of paying 1/2 to get your troops to town is much better than losing those troops and having to pay full price.

Well if the enemy offers so surrender the enemy is loosing for you, and there is no way I would ever let them surrender. Even though I don't have any money at all.
It will as someone already help the enemy alot more than me no matter what !

In the first campaign (Lysander), I always let the ennemy flee because I have no problem to beat them & the money helps me to win faster. The funny part of surrender : itís often the same heroes with exactly the same armies who want to flee several times in the same scenario. So a lot of money for me and always the same armies to kick.

Uh, another thing to consider:
If he flees, he doesn't pay you the money for his new creatures, *does* he?

Unless it's a very special situtation, where you can win if you finish his army, but will surely lose if the enemy gets his army back to his town, I always let them flee. You get to fight them eventually anyway! What's the rush? This way, you get extra cash and the experience, just a couple of days later at the most.

Granted, if he's trying to flee, you probably have the upper hand anyway... but I'd still kill them off.  The money may not go to you, but he's still gotta spend more money to get those troops back.  And if he spends 1/2 the money (or less with charm/diplomacy) to keep his troops, he can start reinforcing them with other troops, instead of having to build his army from scratch.

I think if the AI were smarter, the option wouldn't be as clear as it is now.  I mean, yeah, right now you let him pay you to flee because you know he'll never have a chance of beating you... but if the AI were better, who knows?  Maybe he'd be smart enough to regroup, reinforce, and storm your castles...

if i am economically weak, then yes, the few bucks couldn't hurt, and i get to kill them again. If there is a hero, however, especially a high level one, then, THEY ALL WILL DIE!!! I don't wanna risk my towns being captured by even those annoying lowlevel heroes. If you've played Kozuss campaign, then you know what i mean.
