Heroes of Might and Magic the Gathering

I know we've all discussed some similarities between what we know of HOMM4 and the magic card game, but how similiar are they?  Looking at the info that has been ferreted out I believe that one of the game designers must be a Magic:TG fanatic.  Here is a list of some things that I've seen or has been mentioned on other threads.

1. Magic 5 Pointed Star system with two allies and two enemies:
a)Red Choas direct damage(mountain)
b)Blue Order illusion, compulsion(sea)
c)Black Death necromancy, demons(swamp)
d)Green Nature summoning,(forest)
e)White Life healing(plains).

2. Creature combat:
a)Creatures do simultaneous damage
b)First strike ability
c)First strike counter
d)without hero enhancing attack and defence each creature will do the damage on its stat sheet.  Why is this important?  Lets assume that the peasants that everyone is complaining about have to fight a black dragon.
    Peasant 1hp and 1 damage (assumption)
    Black dragon 1100hp and 140-300 damage(according to Wyvern)
    If you have 600 peasants you can beat the black dragon
    Round 1 peasants hit for 600 black dragon hits for 220(average)
    Round 2 peasants hit for 380 black dragon hits for 220
    Round 3 peasants hit for 160 black dragon hits for 220 both are dead.
    If peasants cost 1 gold and dragons 2000 gold I will throw my peasant hordes against the big guys.

3. Creature town affiliation.
a) Orcs and Minotaurs and Bandits in the Red Asylem(Mountain)
b) Demons in the Black Necropolis
c) All kinds of humans in White Haven(I know this is similiar to H3 Castle)


I know there is more out there, spells like fear and other things.  What have you Found?

Ahhh Oldtimer. You have to look at the fact that 600 peasants takes time to build, but once you have built the dragon dwelling you must have 600 peasants for each black dragon........

Worth the consideration, right??

Hmm....I think oldtimer is seriously overpriced. I'd expect something better for 2 green and four colorless .

But yeah there are definetely things from magic, but things like simultaneous damage, while being in magic, are also in most other games. That part is really only common sense. It's mostly the 5 point star that show obvious influence.

Master of magic had very similar categories for magic (Life, Death, Chaos, Nature, Sorcery).

[Edit: by the way, MOO3 team has said they've made it clear to Hasbro that they are very interested in doing Master of Magic 2. If Civ 3 and MOO3 sell well, there's a "fair chance of seeing a MoM2".]

Doesnīt the black dragon have higher attack and defence than a peasant? Or maybe they donīt have that in heroes 4

Not that I'm arguing for the worth of the lowly peasant(they probably have a very high growth rate to be considered worth buying) but its in the combos that things get interesting.  Use 300 peasants to hit the dragon and take the retailiation, now your calvary or crusaders get a free shot at taking blackie out.  Don't forget haven has life magic so after the battle a bunch of the peasants get better.

Yeah master of magic borrowed from MTG even more then H4 does. But they admitted it in interviews. They actualy worked with the MTG people when they created the game, which is why so many of the creatures and spells are the same as ones from magic.

There are as many magic systems as there are fantasy games, the point is that HOMM4 almost duplicates M:tG and as for race affliation why are Orcs in Asylem?  To me it looks like a nod to M:tG where orcs are a main character in red.

I haven't played Magic in a couple of years but I remember their being a good type race and an evil type race for each color.  Red had dwarves vs. orcs, Green had elves and dark creatures, etc.  So if your thinking about expantion you could add 5 more towns and have each magic type with two different towns.  Maybe a ocean town for order(blue).  And a vampire town for black with vampires, werewolves, zombies, and dread knights.

I actualy think red was the only color that regularly had good and evil creatures in Magic. Green had elves and beasties, but no real dark creatures. Black was all evil. White was all good. And blue was kind of in the middle.

I don't know alot of the newer cards but for expantion heroes purposes you could have two differing towns for each magic school.

Magic races:
(blue) Mermaids v. Wizards
(red) Dwarves v. orcs v. minotaurs v. bandits
(green) elves v. fairies v. dark creatures
(black) vampires v. demons v. skelletons/zombies
(white) Northern ice knights v. southern plains knights

I've noticed that people have asked for new town types in the older threads and an expantion can double the amount of creatures and have new specials and strategy choices.

I know its early to talk expantion wishes but here are some ideas.
Life magic- Northern Ice town
Order magic- Ocean mermaid and sea monster town
Death magic- Classic horror town with vampires werewolves etc.
Nature magic- Haunted woods with Dark elves and dark creatures
Chaos magic- Underground caverns with kobolds, dwarves etc.

I miss MOM!!!

Till this day i still think Master of Magic is the best game i ever played.

And to my suprise HOMM4 have a lot of similarities to it. eg is that now heroes can fight in battles just like in MOM and they can cast magic and wear items.

The only difference now is that HOMM4 the towns and castles are fixed and creatures cannot roam about freely. in MOM, creatures can roam and attack and take over your town and city.

Hope someone will bring back MOM. i remember microprose is the company who did the game. bring it back!!!!

the bad thing is that microprose was boght by hasbro whitch is stupid copmany concentrating on kids and card games, i dont know why but it always happens, like nbc bought xoom and etc, also homm4 is realy worse that 3rd, so im still going to wai for hoom5 and i hope it would be homm3+MTG+good graphic
