Skills and creature levels (long post)

-SKILLS-

As we all know we have 5 magic skill families (life, nature, chaos, death and order). But we have only 4 might skill families (combat, tactics, scouting and nobility). It would be great to have as many might skills as magic skills (this IS might and magic after all!).

Now what would this 5th might skill family be? My suggestion is thievery. The skill in thievery would be stelth, spying and bargain/falsifying:

-Thievery: Adds a button to hero screen - thievery mode on/off. When it's off your hero acts normally. When it's on, the sword icon when pointing at enemy turns as (imagine what, I didn't make up) and when clicking that, you can try to steal an artifact (if it fails, a battle will begin).

-Stelth: When you switch that thievery mode on, you walk as invisible. Now you can go to enemies's town without conquering them. There you can see what buildings there are and so on. You can also squeeze through garrisons (if there is no GM scouting or a 4th level creature).

-Spying: Works as visions spell or like having bandits in your army. It also works as a oracle in HOMM II (Thieves' Guild or Den of Thieves in HOMM III) 'cause he/she has connections with other spies.

-Bargain/Swindling: You can build and recruit for lesser cost and get more when trading in marketplaces

The use for stelth you all knew; it's the same skill from scouting. But what could be the replacement skill for that? Mayby tracing - your hero sees footprints of an enemy hero and discove how old the footprints are, where did they go, how many there were (of course, flying armies don't leave footprints). Wolfs would have basic tracing.

Here is also some ideas for new and old skills:

Mystism: It recovers some spell points every day, increases your total mana (intelligence in HOMM III) and makes your spell cost less

Scholar: Allows you to teach/learn spells to another hero/from another hero, to learn a spell used in combat and use it even next turn

Deformation: This Nature Magic skill allows your hero to turn into an animal for fight (tiger, lion, wolf, bear or even a dragon!). At GM level it allows your hero to spend more time as a animal.

Seamanship: I want this skill to make the landing (didn't remember the right word) punishment lesser (allows you to walk at the same day you land). It could also allow you to sail on a river!

Tactics: I'd like this skill to allow you to split units/link units together in the combat itself.

-CREATURE LEVELS-

Personally I don't like those town creatures system in HOMM IV. I must say that I HATE Necropolis, which once were my favourite town. Of cource this new excellent skill system forces to do this. And I think there should be 5 creature levels (10 creatures for town). You can build only 1 of the same level building in the same town ( also at 1st level creatures). Here's my suggestions for town creatures:

Necropolis:

1. Zombie/Imp
2. Cerberus/Ghost
3. Vampire/Pit Lord
4. Lich/Efreet
5. Bone Dragon/Devil

Preserve:

1.Sprite/Centaur
2.Elf/Dwarf
3.Pegasi/Griffin
4.Unicorn/Dendroid
5.Phoenix/Gold Dragon

Asylum:

1.Harpie/Lizardmen (melee creature, explosing death)
2.Beholder/Basilisk
3.Minotaur/Medusa
4.Nightmare/ either Manticore, Wywern or Basilisk (if the last, then that level 2 basilisk is replaced with that lizardman whitch is replace with harpy whitch is replaced with troglodyte)
5.Black Dragon/Hydra

Sronghold:

1.Goblin/Gnoll (ranged unit, like orc in HOMM 3)
2.Orc (melee unit)/????? (bandit or nomad or harpy?)
3.Wolf Rider/Troll (like in HOMM 2)
4.Ogre (NOT mage)/Thunderbird
5.Behemoth/Cyclope (like in HOMM 2)

Academy:

1.Halfling/????(gnome or gremlim?)
2.Gargoyle/????
3.Golem (NOT gold, just steal or stone!)/Magi
4.Genie/Naga
5.Titan/Dragon Golem (that dinosaur version)

Haven:

1.Archer/either Squire or Peasant (population VERY big and very cheap unit)
2.Ballista/Pikeman
3.Swordsman/Squire (if squire would be 1st level instead of Peasant, then I don't know what this would be!)
4.Monk/Crusader (HOMM 2 paladin style)
5.Angel/Champion

----

Now you can give your suggestions about skills and creatures! And if you have better names for my skills (and suggestion) feel free to post them! And forgive me this long, rash topic, but now I have said what I always wanted to say. Thanks.

I think that your seamanship skill is a good idea, but what if you are at the dungeon town? will you be able to get that skill or not?

It's optional.

it was long, but it was nice to read

i have always liked spying missions in games and this secretly entering the enemy town thing sounds interesting to me. no idea what it's details could be, but maybe you might also be able to learn a spell there. another problem is that imho most of it could just as well be associated with the scouting skill.

and those creature lineups.. the homm4 ones look too much set in stone to me.. btw i wonder if any change has been made lately.. maybe they are just doing some final game balancing right now?
