Ocean Castle

How about an Ocean Castle:

1st=Mermaids--Golden Mermaids
2nd=Dark Ninja--Shaddow Ninja
3rd=Water Snake--Combra
4th=Lake Archer--River Archer
5th=Seamon--Icebird
6th=?????Knight
(7th=Lochnes--See Lochnes)

5thlevel:Seamon is a bird mixed with a snake as Icebird but  Icebird looks more like a snake than a bird just like Griffings.
Lochnes is the known monster of thr lake in Great Britain
I want ideas about the Knight.

A few things, comments, and ideas

First off, try posting this in darkmyth_mirua's post. 2nd get a spell checker . 3rd how bout this for a 7th lvl creature:

Whirlpool Knight, Tsnumi King (or knight)?

The tsnumi king can cast a different water spell each turn.

4th, (like the spell checker comment) no offense, but you are unorganized with your team.. What type of heroes, what buildings will it have, what special abilities does it offer?

Honestly I think an ocean city wouldn't be that bad, but it will need a lot of work.

No need to make up creatures....

There are plenty of classic fantasy water creatures that can be use for 1 or even 2 towns...

Some Examples:

Nixies (water elves)
Kelpies (Evil water horses)
Merfolk (you already got 'em)
Merrows (Think water trolls)
Fishmen (They have a variety of regional names)
Tritions (Think water titans)
Nagas (Nagas are actually a water creature)
Dolphins (Got to put in dolphins!  Maybe a merfolk calvary unit)
Undines (Basically beautiful humanoid water elementals)
Sirens (A realitive of harpies)
Water Hags (A lot of these in mythology)
Nereids (Ocean nymphs)
Leviathan (A huge monstrous whale)
Kracken (A huge squid or the "clash of the titans" version)
Sea Serpent (Got to have these)

The biggest problem is that about half of these creatures can't travel on land...  this might be ok for a neutral town, but as a starting "human" town I think it will be too much of a handicap.

And that's just 15 off the top of my head, I always prefer to see creatures that have ties to classic fantasy or are easily extrapolated then "made-up" ones.  Just my opinion though.

p.s. Homm4 has only 6 levels of creatures but I believe they will have several of each (or just the lower) level creatures per town.

This Sounds Like....

This ocean castle idea reminds me of the Conflux castle. I don't know why, but maybe adding an ocean castle would be a little repeatative. No offense, this idea sounds good. Maybe since the heros may have originated from the sea, every hero from that town woudl have a natural advantage on the ocean. Like, better moral or luck while fighting on the sea, or not having to use boats to travel across bodies of water. With this ability, they wouldn't have to have the shipyard in their town, or lighthouse.

How about :this castle should have a protector (spell) when you build a Structure and then when a heroe is attacking he will not be able to use water magic spells.

Ocean town creatures may have no damage or effect by fire magic or by hell units like Magogs or Effreets' Fire shield.

P.S This from my friend Bill from Vlihos,Hydra.

???

How the f*ck is sea creatures supposed to travel and more importantly live on land?!

A cool idea would be that they would actually live in the ocean and could travel without boats on the ocean and travel very fast on the ocean.

On land they´d move 2 times slower as other heroes and they´ll die in a week unless they visit lakes or seas.

Could also be posted in my "post races/units/other crap" thread!

Well, I think I somehow recall that vampires can't be seen in the light or they get hurt. What about the vampires that wander around the game without having to travel on the second level? There can be exceptions, can't there? Without the heros having to walk on land this castle will  be totally worthless. Just think about the random map players who don't really like water.
And, anyway, we got this thread going on this subject, so we might as well just keep posting them here.

It could work if only.........

It would be abele to work, you would just need to have some sort of creatures that were able to walk on land and in water (think amphibians).  Another way would be to have some sort of pool on wheels. Just an idea.

I agree with Love Doc there is really no logic unless towns could be on water because sea creatures on land doesnt make since and if your making up ideas for creatures Hurricaine Hydra would make a good idea

Okay, let's think of "amphibians"...  (what else do we have to to? )

From my earlier list:

Nixies - These are fine!
Kelpies - again fine.
Merfolk - unless they "morph" to a creature with legs, like they do in some myths (not to mention disney)...  they would be out.
Merrows - these have legs
Fishmen - again they have legs
Tritions - typically they have a "sea-serpants" tail, but legs wouldn't be a big stretch, modeled after Poseidon OR they could move like Nagas.
Nagas - They already "work"
Dolphins - this one's out I'm afraid, perhaps dolphins could be associated with a special structure in the castle.
Undines - these are fine.
Sirens - fine again.
Water Hags - still fine.
Nereids - once again. fine.
Leviathan - out I'm afraid.
Kracken - again out unless the kracken is the "Clash of the Titans" version.
Sea Serpent - out.

So we actually have quite a few creatures that could work, it's mainly the more powerful creatures that don't.  But here's another problem...  are you goinmg to give them special abilities of crossinf the ocean without a boat?  If not then it really dosen't make sense, if so this can really hurt the balance and design on many maps.  I think that this could work, but in a MUCH lesser for...  it would be an "Adventure Site" on the map which kinda looks like a city...  if you gain control of it, it will generate a few of these creatures per week (Like the Elemental Conflux site (NOT the castle)...  as an added bounus, if your army is composed of only these creatures, you gain the WATER WALK ability....  You could have 2 diffrent "generators" one for good creatures one for evil...  these generators should be customizable in the map editor to limit which creatures CAN be recruited.  Let's look at this:

Atlantean Castle
1. Merfolk (these have a fishy appearance, but have legs.)
2. Nagas (as in homm3)
3. Tritons (Sea Titans)

Neptune's Abyss
1. Merrows (sea trolls)
2. Kelpies
3. Krackens (Like in "Clash of the Titans")

If you really want to give it a "Castle" feel, you could give each one a special effect for visiting it (One particular Spell, +1 to a primary skill, ect.)...  and give it the same properties as a garison (i.e., you can leave troops and one hero inside) and allow you to recruit troops into this garrison w/o the presence of a hero...  Finally if ay battles occur with the garrison, it would take place on it's own combat map.

I think that is a good compromise, that dosen't unbalance the game and would add something to it.  Any comments?

oceans, castles, etc

This is my first posting.  Hope I am not intruding.  I discovered HOMM3 SoD last year and was instantly addicted.

I think the ocean castle thing is a great idea, but it would need to be something more generic that you could have in a river or a lake.  As far as how sea creatures would travel on land, well, you can already take water or ice elementals into your army, so there is not much of a difference.  I am deeply hoping that they have done at least a few things to enhance water areas of the game anyway.  There is so little you can do with the map currently, and there is so much that they could incorporate.  How is it that a ship can travel long distances without being attacked by pirates or wandering monsters?  It is kinda silly to see all the creatures standing on top of the water.  And who in the world falls for the sirens more than once?  They are unnecessary.

The thought of having a floating town, or marina, or something like that is very interesting.  Especially the level 7 creature possibilities.  Someone on a different list I think posted about how the Bible describes a "Behemoth."  In the very next chapter of the same book, it describes the "Leviathan."  Look it up, there's nothing quite like it.

Yarg.

Just a thought....

It seems to me that if we were to have an Ocean Castle, we would either have to have the ocean liek the land (lots of wandering monsters) or have the ocean heroes to have a special ability, secondary skill, which allows the sea creatures to walk on land. Maybe then a little different secondary skill system for the new heroes.

Well I don't know.  I mean, already we have both subterranean and undead creatures that strut about in broad daylight.  If the sea/aquatic creatures were similar to the fortress creatures, it would work.  The swamps and marshes are close to being aquatic already.  In such an army you could have giant snakes, flying pirhanas, gill men, sirens, mer-people (a must!  but maybe these particular creatures should be limited to the water.  and maybe there should be similar limitations on other creature types, like if you keep your troglodytes in the desert for too long, they start to drop like flies.  or angels cannot fight alongside dertain other types of creatures.  that would add fairness and believability.), krakens, plesiasaurs or nessies as one guy suggested, and sea monsters of all kinds.  heck, i'm all for this idea.  the more creatures and town types, the better.  as long as things make sense and we don't start seeing robots or cowboys or other stupid shat.

Hmm....

You're right.
Well, maybe because of the limitations of some creatures have been throw away, maybe their shoudln't be any for this castle? Maybe one creature, but it would replace a ship or something like that. Maybe a large kraken that carries around the hero and his troops.

living transport

or even the Great Pink Sea Snail, ala dr. dolittle.
;-)

interesting concept.

i hope that someone at 3do really does review people's opinions on these things.  who knows...

but as far as playability of certain town types, even if towns such as the ocean one or the desert one that someone suggested do not fit into every kind of scenario, they would make a far more appetizing add-on or expansion than simply making new campaigns with a new character like the chronicles series (don't get me wrong, i loved clash of the dragons--it was the first time i laid eyes on the azure, rust, and pixie dragons.  the only campaign i have finished besides that is RoE.  still working on SoD and i have never played AB).  if done well, a whole campaign at sea would be killer, in my humble opinion.  a sinbad sort of thing...yeah...as long as it included special things that were not part of the standard game package.

here's a question for someone.  i am very new to this.  i keep seeing the phrase "random map" used here and there.  how do i get on a random map and play it?  did this feature only come with AB or is it in SoD also?

Another Idea

I think this would be too much but....Improviong on Yarg's post....What if there was this one large campaign were you could only use this ocean castle? Like a world full ith only oceans and many differeny goodies around the map the heros can pick up, like on land. The only other creatures you woudl deal with are another Ocen castle. Make it more interesting, huh? The same units and all you can use is strategy? Maybe the background story coudl be a civil war? Just another idea.
Yarg,
what kind of random map are you talking about? A multiplayer one or just one on your computer at home? For me to get a random map, I just press new game on the main screen and I press an option for single senario. Somehwere around there, there is an option to make a random map game. But, it may be different for you. I have the complete version of HoMM 3, so I don't know about the expansions and stuff like that.

Well if you don't know how to read how shall you understand all i am writting.In the begging i wrote all the things you want to kow about the town.HOMAM3 had always some Human Creatures in some towns mixed up with the Town's  abillides and magic so why don't my creatures look like Water ones.

(Sorry for the writting thing)
