Is it just me?
Does anybody else find that genies and master genies die too quickly to be considered a good unit, or am I using them wrong?
Edit: revived!@

Like any fragile flyer, it's best to have master genies attack after enemy retaliation has been soaked up.
It's also a good idea to split them into a couple of stacks and use their spell points up first if you can. Admittedly, sometimes they cast something useless, but I find it worthwhile to give them a chance to use their special. Having them suddenly decide to cast 'haste', 'prayer', or 'bloodlust' on, say, naga queens can ruin the enemy's day.
Once their spell points have been used up, they're still a relatively fast flyer, and can be make a good cleanup crew.
On cursed ground, merge them into one stack, and they can hit fairly hard, as they have a reasonable growth rate, so you're likely to have a fair number of them on your main hero.

Oh, I see. Normally, my genies plunge into the battle first, being the fastest unit and all.

Genies...
They are an excellent units, good moral, great speed and great attacks! The only proble is that in HOMM IV, they are built cheap for their status! They should be as powerfull or more than an efreet. It's just a matter of playing them well!

I rarely attack with my fastest units at the beginning of the round, i usually cast a mass slow or mass haste (if possible),let your ranged units deal some dmg,or units with no retaliation. Then your fastest units can attack twice in a row.(end of the round and beginning of the next round)
As for tower, let your genies finish units.Or attack any opponent's units getting in melee range with your mages.
Let nagas, mages and titans reduce opponent's stacks then attack those stacks with your genies and gargoyles. If you wait with your genies, your gargoyle can be used like kamikazes.(sp?)
Using their spells can also give good results.
Have fun!

Genies
Genies are a bit too weak when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. They are EXTEMELY useful on Magic Plains because their spells are cast on expert proficency too. I still think they should be stonger. They had 50 hp in HOMM 2 (Don't know about HOMM 1, didn't bother to check, though I suspect they have 50hp in HOMM 1 too)! That's sad compared to the lousy 40-hp Genies in HOMM 3. Oh, and by the way, Genies and Master Genies have a glitch. In the info box the whirlwind (That spining thing) moves. In battle, it only moves when the fly across the battle field.

Thorman, you said that very well! I like that stratergy! I usally just use them to cast spells on my nagas, magi, or Master Gremlins. (Oh, and by the way Thorman, someone else has your avatar. I think you should change it before they nag you)

I was just wondering because I think genies should be much stronger than they currently are. Maybe it will be that way in h4.

ACC you seem to realy like genies. So do I, and, just like you, I'd like to see them stronger in HOMM 4 as well. There are only two things I can think of giving them though: 1. Give them more hp (Maybe 50 like in HOMM 2) and that cool halving ability (10% chance to half the number of the enemy unit's troops).

Genies are new and improved in H4.
Stats
145 hp
24-30 damage
6 haste
30(did I hear 30?) movement
Spellcasting w/ 15 spell points a peice
Imagine having 10 genies with 150 spell points to play with, able to zip around the battle feild, getting into and out of trouble.

well, they...
...do get fried quickly by efreeti, but overall they are a good unit - spell casting ability can make a huge difference, but it can also suck, depends on your luck
...i usually cast with them (prime cadidates being nagas), but this differs a lot depending on the situation; of course, usually you can afford to cast, since the enemy is forced to come to you (due to tower´s enormous shooting power)...

At least they are not halving everything by two... as it was before
I'm using genies as caster - they go well with titans as dummy protectors like have 10 titans and 24 genies spread to 4 in each stack.
These four genies can be good protectors for first attack from dragons - of course you must get tacticts.
Also put your genies before your titan - so that they can put spell on him... hmm.. that's it... And they are fast also

Genie Benefits
I like the beneficial spells the master Genies cast on your army when fighting, which is incentive to keep them alive longer when fighting. So this means i keep them back at the start of a fight!
In HOMM IV the new genies will be even cooler, having their own spell Books n all. I cant wait for that!
