Original campaigns were not holy scriptures, they had their own flaws and restricted visions of a game. They can be improved with balance changes and wouldn't lose flavor.
HOTA fixes exploits. Original campaigns are winnable without exploits. In my opinion it makes the original campaigns even better.
Remember back then patching wasn't a thing. Playtesting wasn't a thing still they manage to get things right.
A good game is where every skill ,every creature has some use and strategically viable. Some better than others but still not brain dead choices.

Not entirely true - playtesting was a thing, but it was less developed and formal than now, and patching was a thing, but it was in the transitional period between 'patches via expansions' and 'integrated patch downloads' (note that NWC in that time period were not strangers to delivering patches via the internet).

Pretty long shot but any chance the Hota template editor could export to SoD format?
I can import SoD templates just fine, maybe an export can happen too?
Right now I just create a template in Hota editor, open it in excel and delete the new columns, and it generally works.

Hi, what columns must be deleted please?

Just wondering, will there be a version 1.7.3 coming soon? Or will we jump straight to 1.8.1 when Bulwark is released much later?

Quote: we want to create more in-game situations involving sieges.
That makes me think.
The mechanic of digging was reused.
The mechanic of a siege can also be reused.
You start as the attacker and the goal is to defeat orcs or gnolls.
But the setup is that a basic fort is in your way.
No towers but you need to figure out how to get to the shooters.
With a reward higher then a crypt but not by much.

Open RMG in excel or google sheets as csv, set tab separator.
Then you can just remove columns. Be careful around multiple rows, because positions need to stay the same across the entire document.
Export as a tab separated csv, rename to rmg.txt

Friends,
Last month, HotA Crew members attended a great event, the GAMEDNI video game show. We have a long-standing friendly relationship with its organizers: they created the Streamfest festival, where a demo version of the Factory was presented to the public for the first time, back in 2019. This time, we were invited again to answer questions from the Heroes-loving community; Anton Alexandrov, the creator of the famous Paragon map, took part in this session with us. We talked about some of our short- and long-term plans, and also took the opportunity to show some of the changes and improvements we have made since the announcement of the new Bulwark town. The show's guests were the first to see them, and now we present them to you.
Significant work has been done since then, in particular, edits on a differing scale have been made to all unit models. Here we show only some of the updated sprites, so as not to reveal too much too early. The most heated discussions after the announcement concerned Tier 2 and 4 creatures, the Argali and Yeti, so we decided to show you the direction in which their improvements are headed. Some changes can also be seen in the sprites of Snow Elves and Kobolds. A new hero model has been created, the female version of the Elder, the Bulwark's magic-inclined hero. We also show new collages of creative searches that brought about the current versions of the Elder and Chieftain models.

Finally, a nice musical surprise. No, we haven't presented the town theme of the Bulwark yet - you'll have to wait for it still, although you could already hear some motives of this upcoming track in the announcement video. On the other hand, visitors to the show had the opportunity to hear the town themes of the Cove and the Factory performed by the Arcanum Vivum sextet, widely known among connoisseurs of classical games. Paul Romero's pieces have occupiet a major spot in their repertoire for a long time, and now they have also played original HotA music by Docent Picolan and Maigret. We invite you to enjoy this wonderful live performance.

One more piece of news: we have significantly expanded the gallery on our official website. Numerous concept art and other images have been added.
Our work continues. The news will keep coming!

Thank you for this look into the progress. There are some nice improvements compared to the older picture. Well, I will miss the candle of the upgraded Kobold, but I think the unit looks better without it. Is the upgraded Yeti one of the Spell-casting units which have been mentioned before? In the older screenshots the battles have been fought on casual snow terrain. In the lastest one there is some difference between the older ones. Does this mean Bulwark will get its own snowy-like native terrain?
So it‘s kind of clear to me what the currently skins of female might and magic Heroes are. But which one is it for the male magical Hero?
Also thanks for updating the gallery and links to the music.

That's great news and a meritorious amount of progress updated. Keep up the good work and I hope the town won't get delayed like Factory and hopefully will get release on next year.

No, but he will have an interesting special ability.

This is Cracked Ice, a magical terrain that already exists in HotA.
>So it‘s kind of clear to me what the currently skins of female might and magic Heroes are. But which one is it for the male magical Hero?
Still a work in progress.

Tevye you and your team are doing tremendous work , I love the update to the algari looks more like a mythological creature. Wondering about 3 things is Bulwark a level 3 mage guild, the war machine a tent and does it take gems to buy jotunns (a ressource silo that gives gems). One last thing , are you thinking of doing a cgi intro for the expansion in the future . Thanks for your work again .

A feature that some might find interesting comes from Master of Orion II : command points.
Command points restrict stacking of monsters. A hero with low command points could not stack an infinite amount of creatures. As if Moo2, each level of creature would cost a certain amount of command points.
Maybe the command points would increase with the hero's level, maybe a specific secondary talent could help increase it a bit.
The idea is to balance some games where a player is limited by ressource finding and therefore cannot win the game agains another player who had the chance to have far more starting ressources ( some towns are really afflicted by the lack of specific ressources ).
This would be useful in some strategic games in terms of balancing.
What do you think about this ?

Thanks for the update Teyve.
In one of the last updates, you made AI able to finally build Mana Vortex in Dungeon, which is great, however there are still some buildings it won't build, like for example Portal of Summoning and Lighthouse and some others.
It would be great if you could fix that.

Thanks for the info.
Any luck we will get a spell balance, creature bank, war machines (hoping for artifact ones that can replace the original ones) or useless building balance update before the bulwark?
