Chinese battery giant corp CATL has introduced 3 new battery types for cars - one cheap one with Natrium, one fast-recharging with 500 km range within 5 minutes, and one long-range with 1500 km range.

So ... US car manufacturers won't be able to offer competitive e-cars as long as the tarriffs are on.

The current tariffs (145%) are more accurately an embargo than tariffs.

Yes, so much for the “free market” when you lose dominance.

Today the resource deal between USA and Ukraine is supposed to be signed. Remember, it's about the supposed rare earth deposits, an element group China controls 99% of the world resources.
Considering that these elements are needed for armaments it's clear that Trump's USA need that deal DEARLY.
If *I* know that, Selensky will know that as well, so I suppose there will be no deal without serious safety guarantees by the United States.
I expect a scathing message by the president on Lies Social later today, damning Selensky.

And to Ghost, I read that 150 Finnish citizens are fighting for Ukraine (of which about 50 are supposedly KIA).

There are huge reserves of REEs in North America and Europe. It's mostly about how the cost of labor is more expensive, and you would need to develop your own supply chains, and honestly, even without the recent fiasco with tariffs (or more accurately in some cases, embargos, because Trump has effectively shut down trade with China) it might not be such a bad thing to secure chains elsewhere other than just China. It's sort of like how a huge amount of the world's high-end chips come out of Taiwan. That is a very clear security risk imho, because if something happens there, it puts global supply chains in jeopardy.

Then again, there are more and more places perceived as risky locations to create something where they dominate a critical resource. Pakistan and India are also a risk.

The thing is, it's difficult to imitate the sort of massive central planning projects involved in China to put these supply chains together. It's not easy to simply recreate it in Mexico or the Philippines or wherever. There's a lot of money involved in it, clearances, regulations, etc. It also needs political backing. China has the power to cut through the red tape very quickly and get a huge operation up and running.
