I appreciate the interest!
Progress continues but not as quickly as I'd like. I really enjoy putting these maps together and anticipate release but life is busy and when I do work on the maps I am extremely nitpicky/perfectionist.
Working on the high Elf zones has been the most fun I've had mapmaking. I have the general layout of about 5/8 of the maps complete. Looking forward to recreating Dalaran City!
Here are a couple update pics, showing the difference with what I'm able to do in WOG vs Hota editor.
For the first pic I wanted to showcase an enemy base, in this case it's a very small one. The buildings are mostly resources/pandoras boxes, along with a gold mine and mercenary camp. The monsters on the screen are actually quest guards that only the player can unlock. Each resource/box is guarded by a selection of enemies from the faction you are up against, in this case high elves. This is to keep the AI from collecting everything in their zones because there is very little neutral space. This is a bit clunky but has a side benefit that the fights on the map aren't all just one monster per fight, you'll be fighting variations of units that are very uncommon for Homm3 which I hope will keep it interesting. It takes quite awhile for me to customize each asset and get the pathing right but I'm getting quicker at it lol
Second pic is a long way from complete but wanted to show what I've got. I may change some of the assets on the left side of the city to make it more uniform, and the whole city will be full of useful things to do, especially farm skeletons for the final fight
U3: Into the Realm Eternal

U5: Fall of Silvermoon

U5: Fall of Silvermoon in HOTA for comparison

Anyone ever get writer's block but for mapmaking?
As soon as HOTA released their new expansion I began reworking the maps I had started back in 2021 with the HOTA editor. At first it was really exciting as they had patched in a number of quality of life fixes, as well as a few of the creatures fixing the WC3 factions so well. We finally got the Campaign editor too!
Everything was going great, until I realized that I can't use RoseKavelier's unleashed editor to make buildings appear as pandora's boxes anymore, as HOTA changed their properties so that they aren't compatible to transfer over.
I was designing these maps with enemy bases comprised of pandoras boxes disguised as creature generators, so that it gives you the feeling of conquering, while not allowing you to buy opposing factions creatures.
Best solution I've come up with is just have the buildings be for looks only, and have events on the entrances. But that seems like such a stretch from regular Heroes gameplay, and it would be weird if you loaded up a save game and couldn't remember if you had been in a building, as there could be no (visited) message on right clicking it.
Anyone have any ideas, or think the events thing could work? Thanks and sorry about the wall of text, just really stumped lol
