Put it this way, I think that The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are more real than those boring movies.  Those movies have no point, I didn't understand a word at all!

just because you didnt understand it doesnt mean they have no point.

There is a spoon. It bends in funny ways. Those who say there is no spoon are not believers of the matrix.

-Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth.

-What truth?

-There is no spoon.

-There is no spoon?

-Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

THERE IS NO SPOON
Whether or not there is a spoon is irrelevant, my friend Trodgor. What matters is the belief.

The question is: how do you know if you are inside or outside?

We do not know. we believe. And so beliefs create your reality.

And so, one day, Neo, thinking he is inside the Jump Program when he's not, jumps to his death...

Unbeliever.

How can you, Trodgor, be sure you're not living in a computer simulation?
Divide by zero. If we're in a simulation, it will crash or at least give you an error.
Now, i hope you will strive to see that there is no spoon trodgor, and that you understand that we do not know, but we believe.

very surprised to see people discussing whether or not the matrix is real. Perhaps the real question to ask is whether or not its a good idea to take halucinigenic drugs before considering major issues about life.

Hmmm, that's interesting .

So if millions of people believe in a book such as the bible, that is perfectly okay.
But if one believes in a film such as the matrix, he is on drugs?

Personally, I don't believe in the matrix of course, but I find the idea of an idealistic world a lot more credible than the idea of a biblical god.

And now for some answers:
Quote:
If the proccedure of 16 women and 7 men were not kept in zion, the system of the matrix would crash but why in the end it didn't?

Everything that the Architect tells is just another system of control. The choice between both doors is just an illusion, they lead to the same path.

Quote:
what has destroying smith got to do with machines?

The program Smith has grown out of control of the AI (the baby face at the end of the matrix revolutions). Neo destroys Smith in exchange for peace between man and machine.

Quote:
The man protecting the oracle at the end of the movie came back with the little girl. I remember they were being cornered by agent smith. Whatever happened to them?

The matrix was reconfigured after the peace treaty. You can see this at the black cat at the end of the third film. This refers back to the first matrix, when Neo experiences a deja vu at the moment the matrix was changed.

EDIT:
Quote:
Did Neo die in the end? Why?

Yes, as the Architect noted, Neo is an anomaly, the remainder of an unbalanced equation. To balance that equation, Smith became the counterpart of Neo. So if Smith dies, so must Neo. More specifically, when Smith converted Neo, he was plugged back into the Matrix and as a result the singular consciousness regained the power to destroy the program.

hmm

digging another thread from the pits of history...

matrix trilogy was fun to watch... left too many unanswered questions and had a few plot holes (or at least things that as a geek i find hard to swallow)

if you want a movie on similar theme but far more mature (imho) ...go watch Equilibrium ...besides, if it comes to it, preston can kick neo's ass with one hand tied behind his back

PS: love the alternative view on things, making morpheus look bad... congrats to whoever posted it

The matrix is real but in another form. Not electronic.

The matrix is a prison for your mind. It is what makes you want to be a productive citizen that works hard and consumes hard, and obeys the commerctials.

It is what makes you accept the way things are in reality, and believe in the various dominant truths of our time. Just like religion was dominant hundreds of years ago we have different teachings now. The content may have changed, but the ferocity and delusion with which we cling to them is the same.

Some people become aware, or escape, but most stay in and like it too. And the matrix fills its purpose.

Good thread.

funny that when i first saw the first the matrix it had explained the feeling I`ve had for years... that Im not in control of my life, and that Im watching myself go through the motions.  The first movie was bang on to that feeling.  I was really excited to see the story of matrix 1 develop.  Unfortunetely (like in so many sequels or trilogies) the author seems to side track and the story goes off course (almost as filler)....

who cares about sub-programms and obsolete programs and
blah blah blah...
What? the idea of an illusion world and a world of robots harvesting humans wasn`t enough??

bou-urns to matrix 2 and 3.
(they didn`t explain anything.. could`ve called it
the Xfiles.)
