Lets put game play above RPG ideas?

Hi.
Many ideas about H5 is based on "cool roleplaying ideas" and not on making a balanced multiplayer game. Starting on the surface with ideas about hero roleplaying and then going down to the core, coding it, trying to balance it, might make the game seem like a non-focused chaos of "cool stuff" instead of a functional, balanced, multiplayer game.

How about starting with the base and then pasting on the "roleplaying paint" once the gameplay works?

Creatures

How many creatures should it have? How many towns? How many upgrades to each creature?

Heroes

Should they be on the battlefield? How do they get more powerful? What should they be able to do? How do they affect the game balance?

Towns

What do they do? Are creatures produced weekly or based on time since the dwelling was built? Does anything increase the rate of creatures available? How should it affect the game balance?

Artifacts

What effects do they have? How do they shift the power between the two players?

I suggest that we start with heroes 3, and that when we suggest a change, we think about how it would affect the balance between the players in the game. That way we might end up with a good game, istead of a non-functional game with lots of cool stuff.

Lets think about what things are needed for gameplay, and go from there. Lets make heroes 5 a really good game. I think we have the experience to suggest these things, if we just keep it logical.

Yeah this sounds like a good very good idea.  It will be tough for everyone to control there enthusiasm but if they think there ideas through then I think we will get a better game and that is what we all want most.

I think that's what went wrong with Master of Orion 3.  They included to many details that seem cool but make the game play suck.  I won't waste my Money on MOO3 even though I still play Master of Orion 2.
