Those !^&@!*&(* &(*_%$%^$^* Adult Websites

I hate those stupid websites. I don't mind if they do their little business, but when I'm trying to do a websearch and I get to this porn site instead of college planning I get pissed.

Anyway, I got like fifty billion pop-up ads and then it started trying to download stuff on to my computer. And now my favorites list in Internet Explorer always has this folder of like 50 porn sites. Even if I delete them it comes right back when I open it up again. I'm not even mentioning the fact that I get a ton of shortcuts on my desktop constantly now too. I've deleted those damn things like 50 times and all they do is reappear. It's even changed Internet Explorer so that I have this annoying bar underneath my address bar that has a bunch of links to more porn sites. I can't even close it out so it takes up my viewing space. I'm so angry. I tried to download a file that would turn off scripting files and that didn't work. They still come back. I've looked all over my computer for the software, but it seems that it didn't create it's own folder, but rather infest other programs.

Can anyone help me?

I had problems like that too, not quite as bad though.
Save what you can from your hard drive and format it.  A little extreme?  Maybe, but I did it and don't get that crap anymore.  If you have a CD burner then you can save more of what you want.  I didn't have a CD burner, and had to start fresh.
It's extreme, but it works.

When the shortcuts appear on your desktop, right click on them and find where they are coming from.  Then delete were they are coming from.

lol, sure it works, but why do that when all you really need is just one program to fully delete all reg keys and programs.

This would seem like a good idea, but I will place $50 on this not working. The only thing this will do is delete the actual program that the shortcut leads to, when in fact it's almost certain that there is -another- program on the computer that re-installs the program to which the shortcut leads. And even if you remove that program, there will certainly be more layers hidden inside the registry. This is why a scan is the only solution (except for formatting).

Worked like a charm IYY.

It found over 500 files and reg keys.

My computer even runs faster now. Thanks a billion.

IYY should get a QP for that. In fact I would recommend that everyone download this program on to their computer. You probably have a bunch of these internet worms as well.

Glad to see ad-aware worked. I've been using it about a year now, but it's never found anything.

Do you know how to set up your security settings and trusted sites? Keeping a high security setting helps *A LOT* in keeping this type of thing from happening. Many of these kind of things use activeX, Java, active scripting, etc. High security disables all those. You won't even get popup ads.

It has it's drawbacks though. A lot of sites won't work properly and sometimes not at all. For example you can't log onto HC with high security settings. I have HC set up as a trusted site. That means every time I go to HC the settings are automatically changed to allow me to log in. Once I leave HC, the settings go back the way they were. I have several sites set up this way.

Sometimes it can be a real hassle when surfing. You get a lot of warnings stating the site might not display properly. I'm constantly changing my security settings, but to me it's worth it....it takes a little time, but you gain the time back by not having to constantly close popup windows.

You can also try enabling the "content advisor" to filter out some of the porn sites.

If you want instructions on how to do any of this, let me know.

I think it was the other way around.
I think Sox used to love the web sites, but those Pop ups sure does ruin the moment when he trys to download the good stuff into his computer
