Update doesnīt work

Now i have got my new PC.......have reinstalled my ROE and afterwards my SoD (Version 3.0).......registered at the zone.....read some threads about updating my heroes-version......followed the link to the "wizards and warriors"-site......clicked the link for updating SOD from 3.0 to 3.2......downloaded the zip file on my pc......doubleclicked the file to unzip.....doubleclicked the file....the file did an upgrade (at least it looks like it saved and changed something on my pc).....when ready, rightclicked my hereos.exe.....what did i read?  version 3.0!!!!!!

Iīve tried it 3 times more, but it seems the same everytime and my version didnīt change.
Perhaps it is important for you, that my ROE version is an enlish one and my SOD version is a german one........(Perhaps this makes trouble while updating?, Playing is no problem at all.....)

Have i missed an important point?

I have an AMD 1000, Windows ME, 512 MB DDR, 64MB grafic-card.......

Any help would be appreciated........(i wanna play at the zone as soon as possible...*grrrrrrr* )

I did what you told me yesterday in the zone, but everything what the guys in the zone did, was, to tell me some sites, where i can download the patch....
I told them, that i have got the patch, but it doesnīt work with my version, but then....no response anymore.......

I will play "hearts" in the zone then instead.....

Heya angelito, go to http://www.heroes.go.ro and there you'll find heroes.exe file needed for SOD. Just patch the game, then replace yours .exe file with that one.

Still doesnīt work :(

I went on the site Nebuka told me........downloaded the cracked h3.exe......after patching i replaced my old h3.exe with this one.....i started the setupreg-file in the directory as told.....i looked on the version of the exe-file and it says 3.2.....i began to smile.....but not for long.......when i double-clicked (also tried it after restarting my pc...) on the heroes.exe-file, this message came along:      missing file IFC20.dll

So i looked in my heroes directory and what did i found?

A file called IFC21.dll........

I think it doesnīt like me.......

Playing "Hearts" isnīt that bad either.......

Any suggestions from the specialists?......pleeeeeease....

EDIT: Iīve copied this file, renamed it and copied it back in the heroes directory. Now the game starts. Donīt know if this was that easy....?

Also tried ODVINīs patch in his "helpful guy"-thread.....link doesnīt work.....letīs see what surprises still waitinī for me.....

Time to give up?

I was in the zone tonight for about 4 hours....chatted with some of the vet...they were very kind and tried to help me with my problem.....finally we tried this:

Deleted SoD an RoE completly from my pc....reinstalled RoE only....patched it up to 1.4 and then tried it again..

It failed the same way like before...
When i press the "Multiplayer"-Button in "New game", i have several choices there...you know that...:

Hotseat is no problem
IPX, TCP/IP, Modem, Direct, there appears everytime the same message:

Error initializing    **put here one of the above mentioned**    connection. Please try again.

What possibility remains?

Thanks hamsi, but i think i have a solution for my problem now. Lovely ()kitten cleans up the MaH Forum and made a sticky in the ToH Forum : "Heroes3 needed ports"...there is a site posted, which describes nearly perfect my problem about "error initializing connection...".

Iīll try this and then weīll see if thereīs a light at the end of the tunnel......

Hiya,
I saw you worte:

A file called IFC21.dll........

I dont know the exact sollution to yur problm, but I do know following -maybe it 'll helps you out a little- :

If a program says its missing a .dll file but it is actually present it is caused by either:
1. Its not in the right place (usualy program directory, windows or windows/system or windows/system32 directory)
2. Its not registerd properly, I think this is the case with this problem

(a little explanation here )
a DLL file is a dynamic link layer, windows & the programs use a sort of tree (library) from which all programs & windows itself "use" parts (code) as/when needed.
Windows itself comes with all sorts of DLL files, a lot of code which programs can use. Some programs need different code, one thats not present, therefore other -specific- dll 's are created
When installing these dll 's are copied to the harddrive. After that they need to be registered in the registry so the program 'knows' where to find it & what it can find within the dll, where it can be use for..

to make a long story short, the dll is not registerd properly, due to a failure when written to the registry
Its possible the right paths (the specific place where this dll should be registered in the tree <= registry) were not found or present
There was already a reference to this dll in the registry  (which was done by another program before this installation)
sollution: often when you copy the dll to windows\system or windows\system32 directory it works fine

also sometimes you have the right dll in the right place, but its the wrong version
sollution: update/patch it ( when updating dont work... very very few times just a plain copy of the dll & exe works)

G.. mighty long post LOL
Anyway:

hfn & G-luck

Thx pietjebell,

but this "dll-error" was not there when installing my original game. It came after i patched my german version with an english patch. So i only copied and renamed that existing file and the error message didnīt appear any longer.
But thatīs not the clue to my problem. I deleted all of my heroes datas from the pc and reinstalled my english RoE-version only, patched it up to version 1.4 and all the problems were the same.....so my conclusion was, that there is something wrong with my pc and not with my heroes version.
But here in ToH-forum since yesterday there is a nice thread sticky, called "the ports heroes3 needs".
The problems which are mentioned there, especially on the site which is linked there (http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/PortRoute.html)
describe nearly complete all of my problems.

So in my eyes, there are two possibilities for this problems:
1. there is a needed TCP-port closed or "stealth"
2. Like it is described at the end of the link, it could be a problem with ICS (Internet Connection Service) and PPPoe.....whatever this means for technical noob like me....
I have to read that part of the site very concentrated, cause english isnīt my native speech and itīs full of technical words....

If i can fix my problem in nearer future (hope HC exists that long....), i will tell ya....

Now iīve found a site, which displays originaly my error message when i try to join a multiplayergame.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q236/4/29.ASP&NoWebContent=1

So i think i have to try this resolution and see if it works afterwards....

Perhaps weīll meet tonight....
