The Gorgon sisters (Medusa, Eluryah, and whatumightcallhe) lived in some cave and Herculies was supposed to kill one of em:
Medusa, which BTW should like nothing swampy or lizzardlike, she's supposed to be a quite sexy women, with snake hare (actually no, she did not have snake hare)
Hey! another discussion:
Medusa wasn't even supposed to have snake hare, but another monster did - whatumightcallit, which dragged some guy who told the Tojians that the horse is a trap into the water, maybe that can be another swamp creature .

This "explenation" is full of wrong facts and misunderstandings. Let me give you the exact info.

First of all the third sister's name wasnt "whatumightcallhe" whatever, but Stheno. The gorgon sisters lived in a remote area, and the one who was supposed to kill Medusa was Perseus, not Hercules.
She, on the other had, is not "sexy woman", but a horrible creature which turns people into stone by looking at them. It's beleived that victims were so horrified by the ugly look and that's the reason for the effect. And she did have snake hair.
And the monster who killed Laocoon and his sons, because they betrayed the Greeks was Poseidon's sea serpent.

Well, there was a mythological creature, a fire breathing bull of some sort.
i guess there are more bull creatures in mythology, but my gut reaction tells that this one may very likely be the original inspiration for the bull gorgons. actually i think the bronze bull might even be better than the homm3 gorgon.
========
btw can anyone say if this could be true?
'The Druids believed the sun was a bull.'

Don't know about you, but I don't like all those versions of giant animals.
If the giant animal creature has a link with mythology (Roc, Giant Spider), fine. otherwise, throw it. like those giant bulls, for some reason, called gorgons. who knows why.

well,in my opinion the HOMM3 method of army and creature arrangement is better,I would have made 8 levels but with no selection.
Maybe it requires less thinking or less strategy but i belive it's the better way

L1)Gnoll - normal L1 unit with no special skills
L1U)Gnoll Maurderer - has automatic blood lust
L2)Lizardman - like H3,no biggy of a creature
L2U)Lizard warrior - no range penalty
L3)Dark elf - walking creature with high speed
L3U)Shadow Elf - Throwing knives,no special ability
L4)Basilisk - 10% turn enemy to stone
L4U)Greater basilisk(if you can think of a better name please suggest,i couldn't but i think it shouldn't be the name) - 25% turn enemy to stone
L5)Black Beast(looks like a panther with really big fangs and teeth and has acid-green eyes with green gas coming out of them) - no retaliation
L5U)Displacer beast(looks the same as the dark beast but the eye color changes to orange and it has 2 tails on it's back,i might post a picture if i would know how) - Attacks twice
L6)gorgon - 20% of taking an extra unit for each 5 gorgons you have
L6U)Mighty gorgon - 30% of taking an extra unit for each 4 Mighty gorgons you have, breath attack
L7)Wyvern - no special ability
L7U)Spiked wyvern - 35% of poisoning the enemy for 3 rounds
L8)Sand dragon - 20% of paralyzing the enemy, breath attack
L8U)Rust Dragon - 25% of paralyzing the enemy, 25% of poisoning the enemy(could be both), Breath attack

i don't think that there should be a grail creature,it would be to hard to get in my opinion and i don't have any ideas for monsters strong enough.

personally, I like the idea of the Sand and Rust Dragons, and Black and Displacer Beasts, but if there are any Dark(Drow) and Shadow Elves, they shouldn't be in the Swamp/Fortress, but in the Necropolis or (if there is one) Asylum.
