My list of wishes for HOMM V

To begin, I started out playing Heroes of Might and Magic II.  Although I like many of the improvements in HOMM III and some of those in HOMMIV, I still play HOMM II the most.

Here are some of the things I think would be good to see in the game.  I would appreciate other's opinions on my thoughts.

1. In addition to options regarding creature development path (my favorite improvemnt from HOMM IV), I would also like to see a few options regarding the development of which non-creature dwellings in the castle could be built.
2. I think a Capitol should produce 1,500 Gold per day, every other Town should max out at 1,250, and a Gold Mine should produce 1,000.  I think you should be able to make resource-producing structures that create 1 resource every other day, instead of 1 every day.  In the case of Wood and Ore, they would produce a Wood on one day and an Ore the next in alternating fashion.  Mines were slightly less significant in Heroes of Might and Magic III as a result of so many resources being produced at towns.  I think Heroes of Might and Magic IV went a little too far in correcting the problem.
3. I don’t think every creature in the game should have a special ability.  It makes the creatures in the game that have a special ability more unique when most creatures don’t have a special ability.
4. Heroes should be taken off the battlefield.  I see them as more of a commander of an army that guides the troops than I do as an actual combatant.
5. No more creatures running around the map without a Hero leading them.
6. How about artifacts that allow for the building of unique structures, especially unique creature structures if they are taken back to the Castle?  Perhaps a structure that would enable the construction of every single structure in a Town would be interesting, such as not having to choose between Dragon Golems or Titans.

Grails that are more unique would be interesting.  For example, the Tower's grail could build a 6th level Mage Guild with one awesome spell.  The spell definitely should not turn the game around no matter what, except something like Town Portal would be interesting.

7. I don’t see the need for an option for choosing at every single creature dwelling level.  Additionally, not every creature needs an upgrade and I like the double upgrade the Warlock had with dragons in Heroes of Might and Magic II.

8. I would like to see every town with 7 levels of creatures like in Heroes of Might and Magic III.  They should all have one creature that clearly fits within the realm of its level.  Some might be a little better than others, except every Town should have a Level 1 creature, Level 2 creature, etc.

I liked the Town-types of Heroes of Might and Magic II the best.  However, I like the inclusion of the second highest-level creatures from Heroes of Might and Magic III, such as the Naga Queens and I also like the idea of optional paths of creature development.  The level 6 creatures make it so that in the later part of the game, it isn’t about only the highest-level creatures.  Then if one new Town type was added, and the concept of different creature paths included, that would be my ideal Town-type structure for the game.

10.

Here is an example of a Town’s creature dwellings I think would be interesting:

Tower:

Level 1 – Halflings (no upgrade)
Level 2 – Boars (no upgrade)
Level 3 – Gargoyles or Golems (both would be upgradeable)
Level 4 _ Rocs (upgradeable to Thunderbirds)
Level 5 – Mages (upgradable)
Level 6 – Genies or Nagas (both upgradeable)
Level 7 – Dragon Golems or Titans (Titans would be upgraded from Giants)

The Gargoyles, Golems, Mages, Genies, Nagas, and Titans would be the only creature dwelling with upgrades.  Also, not EVERY single creature needs a special ability.

In short, I think it would be neat to go back to the Heroes of Might and Magic II Town structure, add something right below the Titan-level creatures (from HOMM III), have a few options for creature levels (from HOMM IV), and add a new Town type.  I like the Hero-skills and spells from HOMM IV the best.  Add modern graphics (with no Pokemon-looking stuff) plus tons of new map objects and it would be my ideal Heroes game.

Oh yeah, please back the map "Broken Alliance".

 Opinions?

As long as towns dont start with 1250 a day- they should start off with 500, an upgrade get them to 750, then another to 1250.

Yeah, and maybe we wont see weak excuses for a special ability like "strength" or "stun" or "taxpayer".

Must disgree here.  Only thing I didnt like about H2 was having to hire a hero just to bring reinforcements from the town to my main hero.  At least leave in the Caravan.

How about the legendary "Dimension Door"?
Also love the idea of building more than 1 creature dwelling per level- picking between DGs and Titans gets on my nerves!!!

7 creatures:
Levels 1,3,and 5 have 1 upgrade
Lavels 2,4,and 6 have 0 upgrades
7 has 2 upgrades.

see above for my suggestions about the upgradeable levels.

drlucifer:

imho the availability of upgrades and dwelling choices are better if they are independent of creature levels. i.e. not a global system like in homm3&4.

imho the skeleton --> skeleton warrior upgrade is just as pointless as any strength ability. imho it's better if the designer can add the upgrade possibility to those creatures that are really suitable for upgrading.
========

Broken_Allia...:

the homm3 lev6 vs lev7 point was imho a very good one. 7 levels is quite a lot, maybe the same effect could be done with fewer levels? i don't really see why it couldn't work with 6 levels atm, isn't it that the lev6 creature would have to be sufficiently weak, and the double growth rate of lev5 would compensate.

maybe the well in homm2 was evil because it made lev6 almost as available as lev5?

and variable strength of lev6 units was imho also somewhat nice in homm2.
