Well I still can't run the game at all when I'm online.. anyone have any possible answers for why this occurs?
I have windows XP.. Heroes runs fine when I'm offline.. when I try and load the game while onling it DOES load I can hear the music and everything.. I can even hit alt+tab and see the icon.. but when I try and maximize it I get a black screen for a couple of seconds then right back to the browser window or my desktop whichever is currently showing.

i don't know if you're talking about heroes 3 or 4, but i have had that problem before with xp, when that happens, try opening up another program (i.e. Internet Explorer or something) and then use alt-tab, it may work that way.

Heroes 4.
and there's other programs open when I do it.. I can see the icon when I hit alt+tab but when I select it I get nothing but a black screen for about 2 seconds and that's it. I'm wondering if there's some sort of port issue.. I don't know but it's incredibly annoying. I haven't played Heroes online since 3 first came out and I was hoping that would change with my new computer.. apparently not.

are you running some kind of firewall software ? (i.e. Norton Security) that may block the game as well.

Norton Security is installed on my computer yes.. but I don't use it.. it is always disabled.

Hi guys,
I am trying to play heroes of might and magic 3 online,
with a router. I have a speedtouch 510i router. But you need to open some ports before you can play online. you also have to open port 2300-2400. but my router can only open ports at one at the time, and the highest number of ports is 64. Does this mean that I will not be able to play homm3 online? Please help me... I like the game very much

Please look in this thread http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?FID=2&TID=10000 for answers to your question. Some of the suggestions or links in this thread may be useful for you. I have found that the link in the 4th or 5th post down seems to be very helpful for many.

Hi. You might want to try and replace your existing .exe file, I've heard some of the patches do some strange things.

Mostly screen errors are caused by:
Possible Answers
- update/patch to latest version
- update video card drivers
- lower to the resolution
- Lower hardware acceleration:
-> Control Panel
-> Display properties
-> settings
-> advanced
-> Troubleshoot
But I think in your case the problems are caused by a wrong/outdated DirectX version.
Go to Micr$oft and DL latest version

Okay, I checked the version of my SOD exe file, and it said 3.0.0.0. So I downloaded the 3.0-3.2 patch. I ran the patch (it wouldn't work unless I put in the H3 directory, so I put it there), but the SOD exe is still 3.0. Then I checked the version of my WOG exe, and it's 3.2, while it was 3.5 before patching. Did I do something wrong?

Tho not an H3 knowbe  I think you used the WOG patch?
Do the patches for H3 expansions not diff from the regular ones?
I know for Homm 4 there are different patches -till 3.0- for GS expansion and the regular game.
After/to update to ver. 3.0 its all the same

Um, I don't think there'd be a WOG patch on the TOH patch page, esp. labeled as the 3.0-3.2 SOD patch

Hi, this is my first time here and I've just tried to start playing homm3 online however zone can't find my game. I've got heroes complete (with the right update). I've tried downloading the regsetup thing and reboot which didn't work, the running heroes while on zone trick (didn't work either) and got to the next point on the list which was playing some games with tcp/ip.
However I don't know how to do that 
So can anyone tell me how to do it? Or even better tell me the solution to the zone problem?

Did u only "download" the "setupreg.exe"?
If so, u missed the most important thing....u have to copy it in the correct folder (where your heroes.exe is located) and THEN doubleclick it.
After that u have to reboot and then it should work...

I put it in the same folder yes...
Frustrating that the game I like the most is the game I can't play online
