Is there any way I can go multiplayer without GameRanger? In TCP/IP mode?

Dear Angelito,
Thanks for your enormous effort to keep this thread alive, and to provide so much technical advice to people wanting to play this great game.
Although you covered the TCP/IP and Port Forwarding most thoroghly, it seems I am still in need of some assistance.
We are trying to setup a three-way multiplayer game in my apartment, but lets just get a 1on1 game going and from there on it will be easy.
I think I have the entire thing down, but any way I twist and turn the port settings I am always 1 step short of successful game joining. Here's the setup :
D-Link DI-524
1 Desktop Pc running Windows 7 @ local 192.168.0.110
1 Laptop running WIndows 7 @ local 192.168.0.151
1 Laptop running Windows XP @ local 192.168.0.165
All computers can ping and browse each other via local IP or Computer name with the "run.." Command. In other words - Local Network is Fine.
At this point we first started trying but no one could see the others'games. In the lobby we each saw our own local IP addresses (192...)
After a bunch of frustration, we decided to try with hamachi. We installed Hamachi 2.0.1.66 and joined a "room". No change in Heroes.
What I did next is something i don't think I saw in this thread :
In all windows i tested ( xp, vista or 7) in the network and sharing center, at the network adapters, if you go to "Ädvanced" then "Advanced Settings", there is like a heirarchy chart listing your network adapters and their "priority". If you move the "Hamachi" network adapter to the top of the list what results is that it will be taken as primary. By doing that on all 3 PCs, I got the effect that now instead of the Local 192... addresses, in Heroes 3 TCP/IP Multiplayer Lobby we now see our Hamachi IP addresses (the ones beginning with 5)..and.. WOO-HOO Games are now visible.. but Unjoinable. Now we can see games but, an attempt to join them leaves us with a lengthy hang and after that the very known message :
"There was an error trying to connect to this session...."
Here comes the part I don't understand. Although i got which ports are USED by heroes 3, i was not able to figure out WHERE, and in WHAT DIRECTION are these ports forwarded. Are there a set of ports on the router itself. Do I need to concern myself with them if the game will be internal only (on our LAN) (no internet connection requred). Do I need to forward these ports on all computers or only on the hosting one ? Which set of ports exactly do I need to forward for just simple LAN TCP/IP Game in a Local Network ?
Also, my router has a bunch of pages for forwarding : "Virtual Server" "Special Application" "Filter" .. which of these menues do I enter my port forwarding preferences in ?
PLEASE help me people.. I have tried for days and I have tried to do all that you wrote, but I can't even seem to make SheldsUP recognize even ONE of my ports as something other than "Stealth"
I throw myself at your feet and beg for technical support.

"Virtuel server" is the correct location.
If you try via hamachi, use version 1.0.1.5, because this is the ONLY known bug free version when playing H3.
If hamachi doesn't work, please try Gameranger. I have yet to see someone who was NOT able to connect via Gameranger. Routers and stuff are no problem at all there.
Try and give feedback

Me and my friend are trying to play heroes 3 over hamachi, but either we can't see each other game, or we are unable to join it.
I am using windows 7, while he is using xp. We have the same version of the game and of hamachi.
Does anyone know how to fix it??
Thanks for the help!

Help Please!
Hello fellow HOMM 3 players, I just created an account and have a question regarding multiplayer. I have tried connecting with my friends through TCP/IP but my friend can never find my games. I host them and he has searchee using the IP address my game says and the one of whatsmyipaddress.com but neither work. So I then tried to play with gamespy arcade and cannot figure out how to actually play the game. All I see are ladders there. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Hamachi is the most widely-used program in order to arrange Heroes 5 games, but it seems to go well with H3 too(this would be the recommended version).
There is a similar thread for H5, there it tells how to play the game via Hamachi. You just have to do the same for H3.
That's what I used to play H3, for other methods you need the help of a qualified technician, unlike me.

Hi!
Seems like many players are having problems playing through tcp/ip, since i have played age of empires 2 through tcp/ip and i have seen many problems im gonna write here something what might help you. First of all if u want to play tcp/ip u HAVE to have hamachi because that creates virtual lan between players who are in the same hamachi network. So secoundly i advice you to close all firewalls and anything what might block ur connection, avg n snow. Somethimes also game reinstalling or restarting your router helps. If u are still having problems then it's probrably because you or your friend is behinde evil router. Then u HAVE to change ur computer to static ip, what's really quit simpel and forward ports. im not sure what ports needs to forward for heroes3. You can check that are your ports forwarded or not with program called port checker but next part is something what i had problems in long time. You have to disable your hamachi when u want ur ports would be open, i dont know why, but i had problems with that. So here are my experience playing with hamachi, hope i could help someone with that post.

Hi to all
I have a situation similar to joXnka's. Two players in a local network both machines connected to the same router. IPs are 192.168.2.100 and 192.168.2.102 - fixed IP'S, no DHCP. LAN works great except H3MM multiplayer. So I tried Gameranger. We get into the lobby, host/join the game goes well, but everytime I hit the "end of turn" button the game crashes. Try reinstalling the game, but worthless.
What can be the problem? I guess it's a network problem since single player and hot seat modes work without any problem.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi,
I have had this problem for a while ....
Opening up Gameranger and entering the lobby/chat and even opening a game / joining a game ....is no sweat....
BUT after a few min / sec I get kicked to the entry room / lobby - Saying : Connection closed.
I was hoping that someone here could help me out, because GR ( Gameranger ) is a cool place to hang out when one needs to play different games, fast and stable.
What I have done so far :
1) Checked Windows firewall
2) Checked my other Anti-virus program
3) Been around Portforwarding.com - And opened all that needs opening ( I think ) - Followed Angelitos' guide to the letter.
4) DMZ
5) TRIED.... to make a static IP, but I am not sure it worked. First time I did it, it locked up my computer !!! .
If someone would be so kind and help me get back on track , using the program , called Simple port forwarding, I would be most greatful. It's free btw.
EDIT I tried to play a game last night and this is what I found out, I think.
1) I entered the main lobby
2) Found a game
3) He fired it up
4) He played his turn and sent it to me.
So far so good, no lag no nothing ( as usual )
5) I played my turn and hit end turn....
6) BANG - Back in the game lobby , saying Connection closed
- So in conclusion, it HAS to be something I have failed to open, right ? I could really need some help here guy's....
