LAN game bug
So im having a problem when i want to play with my friend, we both have the same version of WOG era2 , we can connect to each other but when we start to play, on day 2,3,4 the game crashes, need some help pls

I play Heroes 3 HotA on gameranger, its working fine. If you rename the .exe file to the origin file name, gameranger will accept it! Works with HotA & HD so..

I canīt connect to people in gameranger and they canīt connect to me if i have heroes 3 hd mod installed, but i can without it installed.
Windows 7
Gog version of heroes complete.
That works fine in gameranger.
If I install HD mod, EVEN if i donīt change the heroes3.exe file, I canīt connect to anybody and nobody can connect to me.
creating a heroes3hd and renaming to heroes3.exe doesnīt fix the problem. I run no firewall and i portforward the port 16000.
Any ideas? Is really horrible to play normal version after getting used to the hd version.

Ok here is my current investigation, the difference between gameranger working with heroes 3 or not, it has to do with a single file
DPWSOCKX.DLL
if that file, at least the one installed by heroes 3 HD, is on the heroes 3 folder. I canīt connect to anyone on gameranger. If I remove that file I can.
I dont know yet if i can run HD without that file on the folder.
EDIT: It seems i can run hd, and even connect with other people without the file, i dont know what would happen if i play a full game though.

How just does it work ?
If i install the HD mod, is a safe way to play ?
I mean, all i have to do is remove the DLL ?

I haven't tried this fix, but on my pc, there's a DPWSOCKX.DLL in the system32 folder. It's a directplay file from directx 9 I think. The hd mod version is older than the system32 version. I presume when you delete the hd mod version, the program will use the more updated one in your system32. If the outdated dll is confirmed as a problem for hd mod with gameranger, it probably should be reported in the mod thread as a bug.

I have had the same problem. Tried to run already days, weeks any HD or HD+ mode in GameRanger, find guys or girls to play, then make myself fool. Just doesn't work.
Now i know, what to try.
But anyone know, can i still have my firewall on, or i should definitely take it off? There are usually exceptions possible to make. If u launch game first time, it would ask whether block or unblock.

Finally works !!!
Simple, key is original game. I had some non-original one. It doesn't work.
So u should haveoriginal DVD/CD with game. H3 Complete for example.
Then put H3 HD, install it, do the thing with .exe file, delete this file, as stated before, for gameranger and it works!

You made my day!!! After struggling for 3 days to play with a friend over gameranger, it finally worked. All we did was to delete the dpwsockx.dll from the game dir and everything works fine. Tested on win7, win8.1 and win10 all 64 bit.
P.S. For some reason on the win7 the first time we try to start the game from gameranger it crashes, but then the second start is successful and we are able to play without any further problems or crashes.

Hello folks! I don't know whether this forum is still active, but you are probably my only hope to solve this problem.
I wanted to play Heroes 3 with a friend online, so we both made a GameRanger account. After I updated my version to 1.4, we could finally pick a map to play on. However, after we picked starting heroes and started the game, I got the following error message:
Error opening file
./DATA/RMT/Y7RC.BIN!

I tried to look up this error message on Google, but between the DATA/RMT/ and the .BIN parts, there were different 4-digi texts for everyone. None of the error reports were answered that I found.
I have Windows 8.1 currently if that matters.

I have this file DPWSOCKX.DLL also deleted, but when i tried today, didn't work again.
Before HD+ worked, but i didn't try HotA yet. I used to reinstall all my HoMM games.
Today tried and HotA didn't work. It went to common H3, not HD version. Just didn't recognize HD.
But i think i figured it out. There are 3 important things -
1. H3 Complete or SoD must be original game ofc. Any pirate copy won't work online!
2. If you install HD version or HD+, or HotA, then u must rename this new HD .exe file to original "heroes3.exe". NB! If u don't do it, then what will happen is - the game will find "wrong" .exe file, thus launch H3, not HD version.
More detailed explanation for dummies, including myself  -
- If u create HD.exe file from Heroes HD Launcher, then after that the rip menu from upper left corner will show it. This is the same file, which is in folder. Probably "Heroes3 HD.exe" Must change this file to "heroes3.exe". But there already exists one H3 (not HD version) file for launching H3 SoD or Complete. This one have to rename first, otherwise will be 2 files with the same name. So name the original "heroes3.exe" to "Heroes of Might and Magic 3.exe" for example. Now u can rename this "Heroes3 HD.exe" to "heroes3.exe" and you're done.
3. Must delete file DPWSOCKX.DLL
Ofc. port forwardings must be done do. But i assume u already have done it all. According my experience u don't need to turn off firewall too. At least i have it on and everything works. U must make exception for H3 and everything related to H3.

Hey all! Dunno if this community is still active, but I'm still playing heroes3
Recently i tried to play a tcp/ip game with a friend of mine using hamachi. But even though i could host nad he connected, he couldn't see my messages(while I could see his) and he couldn't do anything in the game. Instead of the name of the map that I chose, he got a message like "waiting to get maps from host" or something like that
Any clue plz? We have same game version and firewall disabled

We have only 2 PCs.
The network works, but we can play 1v1 only. Because there are computers on the free places.
We would like to play 3v3 on 2 PCs. Is there a solution?

Hi guys! Im going to ask you guys for some help.
I played heroes 3 HOTA multiplayer through the online lobby thing. just 3 hours ago, everything worked fine etc!
But now i cannot join back inside. i get this
"can not connect to server"
error 1646:10060
does anyone know how to fix this?
