can you edit campaign difficulty?
For the HOMM 3 campaigns with fixed difficulties, is there a way to edit them to make difficulty changeable?

That can only be done in SoD campaigns, not in Roe or AB.

IIRC there is a way of modifying the difficulty of a campaign map. Go to new game, single scenario, set difficulty to, say, impossible, then go back to campaign screen. I've heard it works, but I never tried it.

It was me who posted the trick that allows you to play your RoE campaigns on any difficulty you wish. However, the problem is that I must have bought some strange version of HoMM3, because that trick only seems to work for me.
Therefore I have made a savegame at the very beginning of the first RoE campaign (Long live the queen) where I have set the campaign difficulty at impossible. All subsequent campaigns will be on 200% too. Besides that this will give you a somewhat bigger challenge, it will also allow you to obtain a higher score at the end (an archangel rating for example).
You can download that savegame here. I believe it should work fine but otherwise you may need to download the latest patches.

It is possible to edit the campaign files to make the difficulty selectable, I did it in the past, just unpack the campaign files in the .lod files of the game and edit with the campaign editor (not available in the vanilla game)
Do anyone remember how to unpack the .lod files, because I have forgottent ?

Yes, it is possible. I did that eons ago with RoE campaigns. Just use MM Archive to extract h3c files from h3bitmap.lod

A few weeks ago this question was asked in a Russian forum, we (Ben80 and myself) came up with this hex patch to allow difficulty selection in AB/RoE. No need to extract the maps...

You need hexdeditor. Its a lot of free tools. Im using eg. HxD. Mobile are the same. What you want. You must goto adress and put 9090. Thats all.
...
Btw. very good. Maybe you know how to unlock permanently hidden campaigns?!

Its 100000 not 500000.
