What happened to heroes?!
hey i used to play heroes a few years ago.. i was one of the most playing players before heroes 4 came out.. i went to the zone and there were 0 peopel there.. how do people play now? what happened to heroes im so confused but i want to start playing it again.. any reply would help thanks

there are never 0 ppl.
about 20-60

ohh i guess it was..what else is new though? what maps do people play now and has anyone figured out new awesome strategies.. it sbeen a few years since ive played

Hi Victorio.
If you have not been around since the early days of Homm3 then for you a lot will have changed. There are a lot of new maps that have been designed for tournament play. these maps are mostly 2 player maps and tend to be symetrical with both players having roughly the same things on their side of the map. Mostly their is a big creature block leading to a middle treasure zone that will take 3\4 weeks to break if played by an expert player. Not all the new maps are like this but they are the most used maps for tourny play.

You will notice that there is a section for randoms.
These are not maps but custom made templates.
This is another development in homm3 that you may not know about.
A while back the rmg.txt file was discovered in the data
file H3ab_bmp.lod
This text file contains all the 3do templates that the random map generator in AB, Heroes complete and Platinum editions of Homm3 use to generate random maps.
Well a lot of players felt that these templates were not the best they could be and some of them have created new templates.
midnight has been a huge ambassader for this and has made
his own mix of templates which he has called MidnightMix.
It consists of mainly player made templates with i think some 3do templates that players agreed were good enough.
So when you add this template to you data folder and generate a map from it, instead of senario info telling you which template you are playing it just tells you its a midnight mix and gives a list of the rules that you are recomended for that game. No DD or fly is always amoung them as with player made fixed maps and a few others.
You see, over the years expert players have played so many randoms and become so familiar with the different templates that as soon as they see the template info in scenario infrmation when playing they will
know exactly how many and which zones to go through to rush their opponent before he has a chance to develop his strategy, which kind of takes the random element of random maps.
This plus the fact that there are a lot of 3do templates that players do not like resulting in endless restarts
was the reason for this special mix.
Sorry if you know all this stuff and i am insulting your intelligence, but i am assuming you know nothing just in case.

And lastly is the Wake of the Gods expansion which i wont go into here because there is a forum on these
boards for that, but its basically an expansion for Homm3 by players and not 3do.
There is a lot to sift through overall. Mainly i thing that the RMG.txt discovery is why Homm3 has lasted so
long, so its worth the time and effort to read up on this.
