MMORPG's are the matrix

Yeah, don't look at me like that, they are! It's the system binding you to their will. They give you an alternate life in a virtual world and in return they harvest your money. And of course, it's all a government plot to restrict our freedoms. If everybody lives in virtual worlds, they will not have time to rebel against the consumer society or the system in general. Who cares about attacking Iran when we're raiding the Tauren tomorrow?

I know of many people who have been playing these games for months, losing sleep and doing poorly in school. What the hell is this?

Guess what, there's a Matrix MMORPG in advanced stages of development Oh, the irony!

Well sure, it's a lot less RPGish than, say, Everquest, but hey.

Ah yes, they swing the flag of their campaign right in front of our noses, but we're too blind to see it!

Good point IYY...

I am also very worried about this sort of thing because people don't seem to be willing to fight injustice anymore...unless it's in a video game!

I mean, seriously...I saw the bonus features on the Bowling for Columbine DVD and one part featured Michael Moore talking to an American College about the High School shooting. He says that even after the shooting had clearly stopped, no one went into the H.S. or was even allowed to enter (Police had put up yellow "Do Not Cross!" tape all around the place). Finally, after 3 hours, the Police went in to find that the shooters had killed themselves.

Michael Moore says that parents & Police were all standing around this yellow tape and "Would Not Cross"! He adds that if protecting our young, which is one of our most Primal Instincts, could not motivate these people to cross that tape, then WHAT THE HELL WOULD IT TAKE?! A joystick???

Matrix Online MMORPG

Looks like fun.

/pizza

...Is a command in EverQuest II.

From their website:

Quote:
You're in luck - pizza is just a few key strokes away! While playing EverQuest II just type /pizza and a web browser will launch the online ordering section of pizzahut.com. Fill in your info and just kick back until fresh pizza is delivered straight to your door.

Now the nerds won't even have to leave to get food! And if they get themselves one of those toilet chairs, they don't need to leave the artificial world at all*!

If anyone mentions sleeping, I'd just like to say that with the amounts of of the most unethical beverage ever invented**, these guys (and gals) drink, they can't fall asleep.

**Coca Cola, of course.

MMORPGs can be problematic, but so can other games.  I've wasted many a night playing Madden and HOMM as well.  The real problem is a lack of self-control on the part of gamers (myself included).

I enjoy MMORPGs more than regular console games.

I played matrix online beta.. as a matter of fact, I saw something most beta players didnt.. I saw the matrix from 10k sect's in the air. I might have pics somewhere in the cyber space.

Anyways.. Good point IYY>.. People who are so involved in these games dont have time to consider other things. A life accomplishment to me is still finding a good job and saving money or going to school but there are times I'm more involved in reaching combat level 100+

IYY u do hav a point. Although most normal ppl can resist the temptation to waste their lives playing a MMORPG too much, some just cannot. For example, a friend of my sister plays every day for several hours on end.
ie: wakes up, school, MMORPG, dinner, sleep...
so sad...
