Has It Ever Crossed Your Mind...

...that if you die suddenly tomorrow, practically nobody on HC or any other online board will find out what happened to you? It just occurred to me that if I was to truly disappear all of a sudden, the people who've gotten to know me via the Internet will either think I'm just not posting or perhaps something more bizarre. The situation would be undoubtedly more confusing if your board pals don't even know your real name, apart from your screen name. Imagine the hovering questions and  sentiments after much time goes by and you don't show up. I personally find the thought of this to be very freaky. If I was a hypochondriac, I might give my parents my online name and password and post instructions should the unthinkable befall me in the future. That way they can announce my untimely departure and give out the due farewell. Of course, I don't think many people would believe any of it.

Have you ever imagined this happening to you? Your thoughts would be cool.

people leave for a number of different reasons, and some might be death..

There would be no way to know for sure what has happened to your favourite online buddies, unless you had contact with them for real, but i doubt a loved one would come on and post ur final goodbyes in a time of such difficulty for them..

It would be strange if some people on this site suddenly disappeared, but that is the way of life, death in inevitable..

HC password in cookies, no password to my windows profile. If I was to go 'poof', my brother or someone would be able to share the news with you HC people.

And yes, the thought has crossed my mind on numerous occasions.

Yeah, that pass from my mind many times... I used the same password for all my internet acounts (forums, emails, msn, ICQ etc),  and when I'm die I'm sure someone will able to let my cyber friends know what happen to me... I hope my death must be something cool... like jumping in a airplane or something...

I've thought about it, but hey, if i'm dying tomorrow i dont give a rats ass whether or not u guys know it, cos I'm gonna be bloody dead anyway. U think some of the past members could have died? Maybe that IM ghost is actually the ghost of pffff.. say Shae_Triele haunting the forums. How do u know that each time u get that blank IM, she's not trying to tell u something, but unfortunately cant type due to her incorporeal being?

This is by no means a solid theory or the result of credible research, but sometimes I imagine the 50-100+ guests who appear on HC every day aren't all that we might think them to be. Ghosts? I myself don't believe in those, but it's an interesting thought. Or maybe not.

Strangely enough, I cannot imagine myself knowing a HC member in real life. No members from any other online forum, for that matter. I guess I'm pretty much alone in my area when it comes to people joining online communities. I don't know if it has anything to do with my home being an island; probably not.

Perhaps they prefer doing weird maori rites on sunny beaches, instead of sitting in dark, damp rooms, drinking coke, posting on forums and just be a geek?

Surf's up

Oh, wait a minute. I don't surf.

I guess everyone around here would rather go cruising the shopping malls and chow down on loco moco all day than become helplessly addicted to some computer game and it's respective online community. Too bad.

Then again, I'm getting hungry for loco moco...
