buried treasure help for a new map

Hi all,

I'm creating a new map for homm4 that I need a bit of help with,, I've seen this done before in another map, "Beyond the Sea"  but have not been able to recreate this myself and have tried various methods which I will list.

what I would like to do, is tie a buried treasure to a "ocean bottle" problem is, that the "ocean bottle" only allows you to edit the properties tied to the text, or message you read.

on the map "beyond the sea" there was a message "go to so and so, then walk south 2 steps and dig" in the found ocean bottle, which would lead the player to the treasure spot, and upon digging, you would find the loot.  in the editor, I saw that the lootpac was burried under a black oracle marker, with the one black oracle in a non traveled part of the map, the properties for the black oracle, in map properties, was simply unchecked for "show location after 1 oracle was visited".

I have tried to recreate this by placing a oracle marker on a test map, and duplicating the oracle properties in map properties, but when I dig, there is only a hole.

is there any other way to tie a "ocean bottle" to a oracles marker, or even a oracle to an oracles marker, so that when a description is given,,, ie walk 3 spaces south of the big tree in the desert and dig,,, a player will be able to dig in this spot, and find treasure,  without actually visiting the oracle on the map?

if this is a simple thing that I am missing, then sorry new map maker here  if it is a matter of scripting, could you please reply with somewhat detailed guidance.. and of course, any advise is appreciated...

Thanks for Viewing

Jahguun.

I am a bit confused what have you done and what not. It should go like this: put an oracle somewhere, where it cannot be visited. Put the X of the same color to the place where the treasure should be buried (make sure it has range 0). Go to Oracle properties and specify the treasure that will be found. Use whatever bottle/sign/event/readme file to guide player to the X spot.

Edit: doh, seems that I am wrong. Unfortunately cannot study the subject at the moment.

aye, I had tried that as well, theoretically it should work like that, unfortunately you can't change the "reveal spot when player has visited 0 shrines" message in map properties, since it won't let you goto a number lower than 1.

but you were right on track, that is how the map creater for "beyond the sea" had it set up, they had the oracle in a unvisited part of the map, and the message guided me to the spot to dig,,, but when I recreate this and dig, just a hole.... I had thought it was possibly scripted, but there are no scripted events there that I see.

thank you for looking though

What about the properties of the Oracle Marker? Do they matter in this case?

unfortunately no, the properties for the marker only give you the radius, which i've tried at 0 and 1,,, i'm assuming that logically it is 0 for "dig in this spot only" and 1 for "dig in this spot, or a 1 grid radius"

I have tried everything that I can think of, that is why I thought maybe it was maybe an scripted type event, but alas it is beyond me.

thank you for viewing.

I couldn't find "beyond the sea" map anywhere. Homm 4 CD has "beyond the lake" but it has no oracles or hidden treasure as far as I see. Searched CH Round Table mapmaking guild and there seems to be no solution either. Only controversial stuff. It can be a version dependent thing. For example in unpatched versions (or US versions but not UK versions) it was possible to set "reveal treasure if player has visited 0 oracles" or something like that.

Vlaad I sent you a copy of that map, thanks for looking at it for me.

Pitsu, the map was found originally on a russian heroes site. and you may be right, it may be some, unpatched map, thing that causes the "0" viewed oracles, to work.  sure doesn't seem to work when I recreate it though.

either way, I'm almost finished with my map, it seems like such a minute thing now, the oracle bottle, and the burried treasure, looking at everything else that has gone into it.. just frustrating to think that it will never be totally "complete" in my mind.

Thank you all for looking at this again.

Thaks for sending the map, but when I opened it I remembered I had it! Furthermore, I had played that scenario before (and loved it... those green islands are gorgeous!).

Off topic, anyone who doesn't keep an eye on Russian sites is missing A LOT. I am lucky, because my mother tongue (Serbian) is similar to Russian, so I keep lurking in those forums.

Back to Oracles : Did the mapmaker put the black oracle at all? I couldn't find it, but then again I might have been too lazy and haven't looked carefully enough.

I tried out every option, even without the oracle, but it was no good.

I guess Pitsu was right!
