Multiple types of boats
I think the game could be improved by adding new types of boats. For example: there were already graphics for a small canoe-type boat, as well as a large ship of the line-type boat. If there were boats that cost various amounts that allowed heroes to travel farther or attack/defend at a higher rating then there would be more options.

We had a similar discussion a while back, but it's still a good idea. Care to elaborate on your thoughts?

I think it is already known that there are at least 2 types of boats. most probably there will be 3 types.

Different boats a known fact?
Hmmm ..I hadn't seen that information before. May I ask where it came from? NOTE: I'm not doubting you, I just have this sick need to go to the source whenever possible. Call it an occupational hazard for me.
That piece of news is a good one for me, because I always enjoyed the tactical and strategic implications of the various boat classes in Warlords, and wanted to see something like that in Heroes.

Set sail!!
What watery changes are going to be made? In Homm3 it takes you AT LEAST 3 days to get from one side of the water to te other.
- get in takes all your movement (no matter how much you had left)
- start sailing and get to the other side (if possible in one sailing turn)
-now you can move on the other side of the water
i say this takes to long, there´s no tacticall fights fought on the water. The water should be more important.
To do this heroes/creatures shouldn´t lose all their move points when going into a boat. This way moving over water won´t waste lots of time and you might even consider going toward your opponent through the water.
I think it will give an interesting new dimension and doesn´t take lots of time.

I agree with Cheesus...
There's no really point take all movement from those who want set sails. Maybe it could be one of the things that "navigation" skill would do. Good sailors more quicklier set sails than those who don't know anything about seafaring.
And maybe how much movement it would take to get into ship would depend what level creatures you have with you. If you have high level creatures it takes more time or you have large amount of groups that could affect it too.
I think in overall seabattles could vary more from land based once. Maybe there could extra phase for ranged units first or maybe you could try to evade battle with hero that has good navigation skills. This would mean that those who are quick scouts in sea wouldn't have to fight necessarily when exploring. I have too many times run into some big hero when exploring with scouts and lost hero and the ship.
However I think is it wise to put too many different kind of ships into game. Maybe three different is the correct choice. We don't possibly want to change HoMM into pirating game do we?

i wonder if flying units can fly off from the boat while in the water... since heroes w/all flying units can fly over water...

Actually, Camelnor, your question raises a bigger question: can you split armies in the field at all?
I'm willing to bet you can, as it should be easy to implement in the game. This raises all sorts of evil tactical possibilities, one of which would be splitting off your fliers as you suggested to attack or establish a beachhead for your boat. Or escorting that hero with Grandmaster Stealth into enemy territory, then turning him loose to raise havoc behind the lines while your army continues. Or in the endgame, you find two enemy armies in the Fog ..both weak. Just split up your army to (hopefully) take them both out.
