questions / comments
Finally received my order of one deluxe set, one starter and 5 boosters yesterday. Sadly, nearly half of my 340 cards are Life faction. Ce La CCG, I guess : )
Anyway, I have a few comments/questions now that I have given everything a once over.
Obstacles - some units have notes about the impact of obstacles in combat. Other than towns, what other obstacles exist?
Towns - In reading the master list, it appears that there are four versions of each town. Out of 17 packs I think I receive the same version of the each individual faction town. What are the differences between Haven 1, 2, 3, and 4?
Units - Are there units that can't be built in a town and have to arrive as guards?
Combat - Have the designers given any thought to posting a full walkthrough of combat? The individual examples in the rules help, but such a walk through would really help with the overall concept which I am not certain I grasp entirely.
Thanks for the good work.

The enemy's melee line is an obstacle to you, which is why a melee attacker cannot attack the enemies ranged line. But abilities with ignore obstacles can attack this line.
Also in the advanced rules there is a rule for ranged penalties from ranged line to ranged line. If you use this rule an ignore obstacles special ability or a ignore distance penalty ability overrides this.

The ONLY difference is in the creatures they can create. I should have a spoiler list up this weekend on BGG that will list the 4 different types of each .

Yes, they will come in your "extra" packs that don't have heroes or towns in them. In Life decks Peasants are the only ones I know of.

That's probably best done in a demo or preview game. But some of us could give it a try also. Or when Jonathan gets back he may want to give it some thought.

Actually peasants can be bought in town. But Mermaids and Sea Monsters for example cannot. Any units with an X in place of their card cost can not be bought in town.

I think that's incorrect. The only units that can be bought in a town are the ones specified for the levels attained or specified in the towns special text for that level (as in Waspwarts and Mantises for Nature). If Peasants were specified in special text, I missed it, but I don't think they are. Level 1 of a Life town gives Lvl 1-2 spells. Level 2 gives Life Artifacts, Level 3 gives Lvl 3-5 Spells and I think Lvl 4 gives some non-purchase related bonus.
The X means that the units, like Seamonsters and Mermaids, cannot be defined as a Creature Dwelling (and also of course cannot be bought in a town).
A Creature Dwelling would be the only way to buy Peasants as far as I know. I typically start 3 peasants in my starting army for an early income boost until I can define a location to build more.

Peasants are not listed in Havens at all, and no where on the Peasant card does it say anything about being able to buy them, so the only option left is define a dwelling. Lvl 4 Life town allows you to buy Tactics, Life Magic or Combat.
