The war of Troia - Heroes III

Hi guys!
I make this post in place of a friend of mine. He has made a map and this is the first version of it. Possibly this map contains some bugs that we have not located yet. Anyway, we need volunteers to play the map and tell their opinion and thoughts on making it as hard as possible but yet ... doable!
You can download the map here.
The map was developed and tested in Shadow of Death, version 3.2, and contains combo-artifacts at the current version.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Restrictions / Suggestions / Thoughts:
1) Play the map at least on Rook difficulty level (suggested for this version).
2) Do not open the map with the Map Editor but play the game!
3) On my subsequent posts, whenever I write
SPOILER
you should read the post at your own risk, since the post will refer to various specifications/clues of the map and hence may spoil the fun prior you play the map.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Have fun and tell us your thoughts! Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you all in advance for your time and feedback.

Dimitris Diochnos and Kostas Makris.

Are you eventually considering putting an underground in it? If not, you should check the map as a one level map. It could use more beauty: trees, shrubs, rocks, etc. Otherwise, it looks interesting.

You are correct on that. That was my first observation towards my friend but I never got a straight answer on the reason of that. Perhaps he thinks that the player who plays the map (without prior opening it with the map editor ) would be more nervous and anxious as months go by and you have not revealed a big portion of the map. That's the only reason I 've thought so far ... I'll discuss it again with him this evening. By the way, ByteBandit, since you replied on this thread, I believe you are going to play the map, so I hope to hearing from you!

It would be a while since I could test it. I have been doing and am involved with 4 or 5 projects right now with HoMM3 and WoG. You could always go to ByteBandit Map Archives 6 and post it there for testing if you don't get any feedback right away. Or MapHaven too. There are people there who may test it for you. Good luck! :-)

This was very useful info to me ByteBandit. Thank you. I think I'll settle down here in HeroesCommunity though for at least 2 weeks, since this is the place I know better on Internet regarding the Heroes series (yet, I am still a newbie even on this place). If I don't get any feedback till then, I suppose I'll have to consider the places you suggested. Although, now that I think more of that, I believe that eventually I am going to make similar posts like this one in the places you suggest. Thanks again for your time and your useful advice.

Sounds good, but what expansion of Heroes do you need for this? Can you play it with Restoration of Erathia?

Version Matters

Good question, which shows that both me and my friend are amateurs on this field. I've tested it with Shadow of Death version 3.2 and I am afraid that you can not play the game with Restoration of Erathia. The reason is I think that there are no combo-artifacts with Restoration of Erathia. (Of course I might be wrong on this one again since it's more than 2 years since I last played RoE where I played only a handful of games - those that introduced me into the world of Heroes )
Thank you though for pointing out my omission on my first post. I'll go and place a label. By the way, if you don't have Shadow of Death and you are willing to get it,.....
Edit by angelito
{Modhat on} I think you know itīs not legal to make copies of games and send them to other persons...and force them to do the same!{Modhat off}.....

Legal stuff

I am sorry for the inconvinience I might made with my last post. I thought that as far as Heroes III is concerned, this does not apply since the company has gone bankrupt.
Anyway my apologies again. I really didn't want to cause any trouble.

The map is a bit empty, well for me atleast. But then again it is probably my issue that i must fill all possible gaps with something suitable in the map. otherwise I have also myself thought of making a map of greece.

Thank you Walhavar. I didn't expect to receive any feedback on this map after so long! I must inform the creator!

As for the map, being empty, well ... it was supposed to be like this. I believe it needs some manipulation like ByteBandit has proposed but my friend never really spent some time to make it look better. On the other hand, you are about to receive some spells only after specific events. But can you be more specific. What is it that you feel like is missing?

Thanks again

Well the way i see it, it is possibly, maybe, probably complete, for playing(havenīt played it myself) though, to be quite clear i think it is missing a great deal of obstacles and is empty, as too exaclty alike in very many places. I mean, you should put more attention to the landscape, trees, bushes, craters, lakes, and numerous other obstacles and add them on your map. It is very much more interesting to play a map where there is something on it besides vast wastelands of rough.
If you open "Myth and Legend" in your editor, you can quite understand what i mean. The usage of space is finely planned, and everything looks OK.
Secondly. Try not to use the same tool or object over and over again in one territory. It is not very nice when you have 25 mines in a 6X36(tile) territory. Try to vary the position of them and instead of making them exactly alike and just mines, try to put also some objects beside them and make them look unique.
If you got these two subitems well done the map will look many times better.
I understand you wanted to make a map of the war of rome, but you need to take alot more time to make the map impressing and great. Nevertheless i give you credit for making this map anyways.

Well, there is a reason the map seems monotone. The point is that repeated obstacles have a purpose, i.e. guide the user so that he follows specific paths. However, I am totally with you and with ByteBandit's observation, that the map is ugly. So, yes, I agree that many things should be inserted, but in this initial version of the map we wanted first of all to receive some feedback from the strategy when playing the map - of course without prior opening through map editor.

Anyway, I still haven't seen my friend to discuss more about it. After all it is his map and he is the one who decides the layout. Thanks again and I would like to hear some comments as well when you actually play the map.

One note: The war is hellenic (greek) - not roman.

I played 2 days and then got tired of it. The reson is that one of the things I like best about h3 is developing heroes. On this map you start with 2 (weak) lvl 17 heroes and the heroes you can buy suck. So you are basicly stuck with 2 magicheroes with crapskills. The starting fights are so tough that even if you had some good heroes to buy you would be stuck with these 2.

I think this is the point of the map. Make difficult fights and try to follow roughly the myth and the preparations for the Trojan War. Each hero has his own abilities and skills and you are going to free some more heroes. So, in order to have difficult fights, heroes had to be upgraded and have crap skills. At least, by the time the map was created the designer didn't have one thing in mind, so that you are allowed to develop your hero as you want. I've made a suggestion on this (since it bothered me as well) and hopefully on "The Return of Ulysses" (which is only an idea right now ...) we can enjoy a more interesting  map.

If however you attempt to play this map again, I would like to hear your comments maretti.

Thanks
