Poll Question:
Orcs

Since I strongly disagree with the heroes V anti-orc policy, I would like to see how many of you guys have a similar opinion. It's not that I miss the orcs so much, but the behemoths were one of the coolest creatures in heroes. And the entire concept of kicking the barbarian race out of the game is disturbing, because it was constantly there since heroes I. So, if you agree, vote YES for orcs.

Responses:
YES for orcs
NO for orcs

Yep, orcs should be in, but if I was choosing between having them or Dwarves in the game, I'd go for the latter.

Orcs were different in each sequel, from pigs to greenskins and ummm... back to pigs.

I didn't really care for any of those renditions (especially since they all sucked big time until Equilibris gave them the Stun ability ), but I have also felt they belonged to Heroes of Might and Magic.

I wish they were depicted differently, though. For example, Orcs in Warcraft remind me of American Indians or Golden Horde - wild and savage, yet noble in their own way.

Voted "yes", of course!

of course i like games with more options !
so I would like to see barbarian faction in the game
for example : heroes III armageddons blade has 9 towns.
More towns means more strategy! more creatures! so richer game Why not??

well i personally never played as the barbarian faction, (save for maybe H1) so if i had to pick between more elves and orcs i would definitely go with the elves, but i would vote yes to having them in the game, after all, they have been part of the game forever even if i dont like them

The orcs apeal to some, but not to others.  From what it seems, H V seems to be geared mostley toward magicians, and less toward those who relish the cool steel of a broadsword.

I like Orcs. īn other games they use club, axe, swords etc. maybe Heroes could make orcs with all kind of weapons? So maybe we can make a orc map just for fun...

The exclusion of Orcs is plainly silly to me. As everybody said before, it kind of makes the lineup of Heroes creatures incomplete. Are we to believe the Orcs no longer exist or have gone into hiding during this game? Not likely. I've liked the Orcs since the very beginning, so I think it's a shame that they might not get included. I say that the Orcs should stay.

Orcs are one of the elements which makes heroes great. I cannot imagine a modern heroes game without these dwellings.

my short opinion about the orcs...

Well, the fact that orcs are excluded out of Heroes of Might and Magic V completely shocked me when I first heard about this. I knew they would not have been included in the original version, but  I truly hoped they will return in the expansion - remember, I wrote a series of proposals about their town. However, that is not going to happen - at least for the time being (the Heroes V contest - I will probably post an idea about their town).

From the first sentences, you can say that I vote for the orcs, not against them and that is true. However, there are some things that make me think it is good that they were excluded. I have prepared a list of certain points here why the orcs should or should not be there.

Why the orcs should not be included?

1 - Orcs play a major role in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, another Might and Magic game that will be published by Ubi. A vast number of orcoids (or goblinoids) are going to appear there, so if the storylines of both games are connected, there would be no wonder Nival wants the orcs not to appear in Heroes 5.

2 - Orcs are quite an usual monster. It appears in most RPG games, as well as in some RTS's. I think that Nival wants to re-new the series by gradually adding and removing creatures, spells, towns etc. therefore making the game unique.

There are other points that could be listed, but as that does not fit here, I will leave them be... If you have something to add, post it here and I may add them to this black-list.

However, I am not against them... at all. I think that these points were why Nival decided not to add the orcs.

Why the orcs should be included?

1 - Orcs have always been a part of the series (I think). They appeared in both Heroes of Might and Magic and Might and Magic RPGs. They always served the dark side and were foul creatures, but they were always vital for the game as there weren't as many creatures to serve the evil forces.

2 - The orcs always serve the dark side and were foul creatures, but they were always vital for a game as there aren't that many creatures to serve the evil forces (in Heroes 5, the Necropolis seems to be a half-neutral, half-order one, so I do not count its creatures as absolutely evil... )

3 - Without the orcs, there are no dwarves, I suppose. They are the worst enemies almost everywhere so I presume that the same 'rules' should be applied to Heroes 5 as well.

There are way more points such as tactical side, interest, personal likes or dislikes, but I will not write them. We all have our own, but they apply to everyone.

This is a short reply to why or why not the orcs should be here. Orcs should certainly be included, but if I had to choose as Woock, I would choose dwarves or even lizardsmen if possible (I miss them - I would like them to be a major part of the series). But it would be best to have 'em all!

E: Vlaad, I forgot to separate those two and add a few things before posting this... I must have written a bit of nonsense (I was almost asleep, when i was writing this... )

Tolkien, you say... Nay, the goblins, according to The Hobbit, are the same orcs, only some sort of a branch or simply another name. Therefore, both Dwarves and Elves have the same enemy.

Do not forget they joined forces (if you read The Hobbit) in the great battle near the Lonely Mountain against wargs and orcs - I do not recall the battle's name in english...

This doesn't make sense.

By copying an entire faction from Warhammer...?

In Heroes 1, 2 and 3 they belonged to the barbarian faction, which was neutral, not evil. It wasn't until the 4th sequel that the Orcs joined "evil side", as you put it.

What do you mean by "there weren't as many creatures to serve the evil forces"? There were Necropolis, Inferno and Dungeon...

If you mean Tolkien and his countless rip-offs, it's Elves vs. Orcs.

I'm not into Dwarves that much, but aren't their archfoes the Goblins...?

You have a point, games that have  more unique creatures seem to stick out in my memory.

According to the Heroes 2 Succession Wars story, the Barbarians were allied with the evil forces under Archibald, not the good side. Heroes 3 saw the Barbarians as a neutral alignment, while Heroes 1 did not highlight the good/evil nature of the towns.

Exactly. These stupid creatures exist in FAR too many games, novels etc. Aren't you bored to see orcs in every game they release?
(before my post gets quoted 3 times i answer it myself: no you don't seem bored)

Actually it is probably the first game feature (or rather the absence of it) that i agree with. Sorry i'm so negative.

Actually, no - if they are done well, like in Warcraft 3. I admit I have never cared for Orcs in Heroes, though.

orcs...

if memory serves, orcs are mentioned in the storyline (which means they are in, probably as neutrals ...or that they wull show up in an expansion pack)

edit:
as for warcraft... the only orcs worth mentioning are Thrall's Horde... on another note, the Tauren are the "native americsns" of the bunch
