What do you think about the Heroes 5 Demo?

The Heroes 5 Demo is finally Available to Download. 668 MB file. System requirements:

OS: Windows 2000/XP, DirectX 9.0c April 2005
CPU: Pentium 4 1.5 GHz / Athlon 2000+ or higher
RAM: 512 MB or higher
Video: 128 MB AGP GeForce4 Ti4200 / RADEON 8500 or higher video card
CD/DVD-ROM speed: 32x
Sound: DirectX compatible PCI 16-bit sound card

Contents:
Two maps from the Haven and Inferno campaigns
One custom single-player map: “843 YSD: Falcon’s last flight”
Duel Mode: 6 heroes out of 18 are available for selection in this brand new online mode

It's just as I feared; I cannot play it. Since I won't be getting in on the fun anytime soon, please share your experience in detail. I'd like to know what I'm missing.

Waited an hour and thirty minutes just to download, then I went through the installation process, took the registration and when I finally tried to play it (eager with exitement), it came up with a error...what the f*** is up with that?! All requirements to run the demo are met.

Though one much appreciate the irony of my signature below and my situation.

Excellent #2

All the bugs, things that annoyed, and gameplay issues seem to have been resolved from the beta.  The music, AI, graphics are all top notch.
Running at maximum settings on the graphics, things were smooth, no slowdowns whatsoever.  Now I'm totally excited about the full game....

BTW I played the campaign and the singleplayer map, and the AI kicked my butt

where did you guys download the demo from???

cause i tried to get it from gamershell and when i looked into the folder to install, there was nothing there

I downloaded from Gamershell, it has plenty of servers and the speed was very good.

I'm impressed, the gameplay is very nice, lots of annoying things from the beta have been fixed, the game can run on a reasonably slow machine on 800x600 and higher on an average machine. The slowdowns from the beta have been fixed.

I've mainly played duels for now, and this is what I can say:

Dungeon heroine is severely overpowered, all my troups would go first on some turns, and then some twice per turn. No-retaliation vixens that can run across the whole screen, twice per turn are a bit too much. What I do is space out the shooters, runners to the front with lizards. Lizards are the meat and attack the fastest enemy stack. Vixens also prioritise fastest and most damaging enemies. The casters slow and shoot, while the hero casts meteor shower. Once after a meteor shower all casters added an extra energy shot into the enemy. Complete slaughter.

Haven hero is interesting to play. Paladins are the crucial unit. They deal immense damage on the first charge, it must be made wisely. Griffins can use battle dive on the most remote caster/shooter. Angels, on their first action, before some of them die, can be used to resurrect all fallen paladins for another mega charge. Marksmen can be blessed by the hero or the priests and do excellent short range damage. Not very good in long range though. Haste and slow are very important - it allows paladins to megacharge more and enemies to retaliate less.

Sylvan hero completely anihilates Academy, but can be on par with Haven. The key is to use treeants to bind fast units that are approaching so that your powerful druids and elves can use their ranged attacks. When playing against sylvan, think of destroying the ammo cart - those shooters don't have many shots without it.

That's all for now

Edit: oh and Mass Haste is a crucial spell - cast it if you have it. If your units get more turns faster - it is the biggest advantage, more important that some 300 extra damage from a spell.

Strange, tried downloading it from gamershell, it started fast enough but then started dropping every second untill it reached 2 bites and stuck there for 3 hours...

Then I canceled it, cursed in the 4 languages that I know and went to shoot some hoops.

NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, i installed the demo, and met all the requirements
my video card: Raedon 9000, CPU: Pentium 4->3.0, memeory 512.MB..

Installed DirectX 9.0c (Oct 2005) and Run the game
WOw..it works..BUT!!!! When i tried to go to a campaign and the thing started loading..and when the loading comes half way...everything crashes!!!!!!!! ..OM*G........Anyone can solve my problem?

But due in multiplayer works alright...

The previous homm v demo was working fine (with the exeption of lagging and crushing sometimes)

LOL,for me, in multiplayer, the thing crahes when loading is about 90%-92% , I've always been a great fan of the heroes series.....and now the demo doesn't work, I was going to buy the game when it comes out in May, it better not have the same problem as the demo.. LOL.

PS: Anyone can help me?

DUel mode works fine, but still...can't play custom game or campaign gets me so goddam disappointed.

NEED MAJOR HELP!!!!! Anyone good hearted hero who helps to solve my problem would be greatly appreciated. !

Tried it a bit, don`t have time now for a long post, so I`ll keep it brief.
-It`s working suprisingly slow on my computer, which I didn`t expect.
-Design of the creatures leaves something to desired for in most cases.
-Gameplay mechanics and atmosphere - much better than I expected, though I think the storyline will be a complete and utter bullcrap.
Bottom line - I only started playing, but I`m not disappointed, looking forward to more free time to waste on Heroes.

BTW can someone explain how the morale/luck thingy works now?

The story on contrary is best heroes game ever got, since those earlier ones were quite naive and straightforward. Having a history for the storyline tells something too (while other series didn't have a timeline or something similar...).

Positive morale makes your unit act again faster than it should (Puts your unit in a left side of ATB bar)

Negative morale makes your unit delay turn by putting it more to the right side.

there is no "wait" button in battles in this demo

i know that if u go into a certain battle mode, dynamic i think, ur creatures can wait if u dont do anything. but in the normal (default) battle mode is there a way to wait???

i found this to be quite annoying

I had the same problem but i thought that my video card is not good enogh. Maybe some of the DirectX9c fitures don't work properly!!
Please help us for this problem from what it must be???

How to fix the "loading and crashing problem" if you have meet all the minimum requirements and have a ATi Raden 8000 and up!:
-LOL, although i am not a truely computer expert, but I know lots about it. It really pissed me off when it doesn't work, (as explained before) So that got me into thinking, hmm, CPU, memory, Graphic..what could it be! Then I finally put the problem on Graphic Card, cuz that's the thing why lots of games doesn't work.

The thing with Direct X 9.0
-no matter what version you have..if you don't have a 9.0 (a b or c) the demo starts and gives an error, you can't even get in the game. This is becaue you don't have directx 9.0 installed!!!

How to fix the crash
-go ATI.com
-and download.....
-Catalyst 6.4 Windows XP - Driver Download
-and make sure you install Microsoft.Net.Framework if you don't have it
-and then install those 2 softwares on your computer.
-NOTE: if you installed Heroes V demo before you installed the two softwares Heroes Demo might not work anymore , so you have to reinstallit
-then try the game..if should work
-why? becaue AIt Catalyst improves AIT drivers functions by like 1-5%
and that makes a different, and people having the same problems as me (posted before) might have a outdated driver installed, or something
-Note: if you using Geforce..then you shouldn't have the problem.my friend got Geforce..and the game went smooth as hell

PS: the method may not work...the hardware and software co-operatoin is very hard to understand fully.and that's why sometimes computers have weird crashes or stuff.

Other then that the game's great!!
I love the graphics..and i t's great even with ATI Radeon 9000!!
um..damn the mission's goddam hard, I played the Queen,and never lost more than 5 units..until the red player come ot attack..6 devils!!!!!! and with gating..wow..my 120 peasants and 10 knight and 80+archers..and blah.. ddidn't do no crap against them ..LOL..going to try again today..and beat that mission lol)

First impression is quite good.

Cannot enjoy it fully as my comp is a bit weak (was extremly strong until I got the demo!).

Duel dynamic battles are awful though, worse than 2 min limit in H3 games lol. Atleast 10 times per battle my units wait just because I didn't manage to move.
