Heroes 3 and windows xp

I am having major lockup problems when i try to run Heroes 3 on win xp home edition.

Is there a fix for this problem? Or do I just have to tough it out?

I know heroes 5 is almost out, but I still want to play 3.

Does anyone know of any solutions?

All I could think, and prolly that isn't the answer, is to try to run it in Windows 98 compatibility. Right click on heroes3.exe file, and there should be that option.

But as said, prolly is not, as I've been able to play on XP (though Proffesional version) without problems.

I'm playing with XP home and have no problems. As Nebuka said, you should try to switch the game's compatibility mode to win95 or 98. Works for me!

Thanks all for your input. I turned off the virus scan program and so far no more lockups.

I appreciate that people here took time to reply.

Well this may nbot help but i have win2000 professional.
I have had virusscan and all that and the program has not locked up once.
I have never had a problem running heroes 3 on my win2000 machine.
Maybe you could try going to the taskbar thingy and turning off any programs which are just using valuable memory space.
The more space or virtual memory that you have avaliable to you, then the better your system will run.
By turning off programs such as msn or any antivirus programs then it may give you some extra virtual memory and that little memory will probably give you that boost that you need for better gameplay.
