Does the AI Cheat?

I was playing a single player map and I was Haven. My computer opponent was also Haven. When It got down to both are main armies fighting there was clearly a difference

My army:
500+ marksmen
200+ squires
100+ imperial griffins
50+ Inquisitors
20+ Paladins
10+ Archangels

Computers army:
2000+ marksmen
500+squires
300+imperial griffins
200+ Inquisitors
100+ Paladins
50+ Archangels

His marksmen was probably the most daunting stack he had, I dont know where he got all those extra troops. It was on Normal and there doesnt seem to be a easy setting.

I like cavaliers/paladins

Well.. maybe in that particular map they were given more resources to do the training ground thing...

I never liked the AIs, so I guess that's why cheats and hacks were invented

You know I have the same problem... I was snowing about this in another post. I used to romp through H2 and H3 no sweat, crushing all in my path. But now, it seems the darn comp always throws one huge army after another at me no matter how many I defeat! Eventually it whittles me away to a feeble handful of units that just can't keep up, all my gold has been spent, all my mines have been taken by those annoying weeny heroes the comp hires just to steal yr $hit. Somehow it manages to retain a massive force, even though it has the same amount of castles as me on many of these maps.

What else irks me is the fact that it seems to have some kind of homing device installed in the brains of each hero... you watch the bastards run through unexplored regions: it makes a direct beeline to castles you have unmanned. As soon as you put some troops back in, it will change its mind... It hasn't even explored that area but yet it knows whats going on!

I realize that AI is one of the most difficult things to program in games, but its just frustrating when you do extremely well in a game only to be defeated by an omniscient, all-powerful computer rival who always has a number advantage over you despite the fact you have been playing a perfect game up to that point! WTF!

i recently had a very similar situation happen during one of my games. However what confuses me is mine is a little more mind-boggling. I was playing a map with a number of castles, and i had 2 more then the enemy. He was down to 2, and i was confronted with this army on par with my strongest army. I defeated him, and expected an easy win. However then out of nowhere, an army twice the size as the previous fight comes along, which i am forced to defeat, and then finally becoming defeated myself when a third, equally strong army presents itself. I cant understand how it could possibly happen. I get frustrated when the computer makes troops appear from nowhere, my only explanation is that a number of units must join it, aswell as having the luck of visiting all the independent creature dwellings.. hmmm confusing thought to ponder..
