Fact #423b: If you're not a morning person, don't shower in the morning.  You run the risk of falling asleep in the shower, and then slipping, falling, and bruising yourself as a result.  And you also run the risk of embarrassment when asked about said bruises.

...Of course, that didn't happen to me.

The English Long Bow

Reference 1

The "English longbow" was neither invented by the English nor called a longbow, at least not in our period, although the weapon was certainly known as a characteristically English weapon.

[the bows] average 6 feet 6 inches in length, with none shorter than 6 feet 1 1/2 inches.

Reconstructed bows range from 60- to 160-pound pulls with draw lengths from 28 to 34 inches.
The heavier bows (160-175 lb.) can throw a bodkin arrow up to 320 yards and a flight arrow up to 350.
The lighter bows (100 lb.), which are the most typical of those found, can throw up to 220 and 250 yards respectively.

Reference 2

The greatest distance shot by a modern archer was made by Ingo Simon, using a Turkish composite bow, in France in 1913. The measured distance was four hundred and fifty-nine yards and eight inches.

(...Although the composite Turkish bows can shoot the farthest, it is only with very light arrows; they are incapable of projecting heavier shafts to the extent of the yew long bow,)

Not exactly/always true. An older woman who's keeping fit or does sports regularly is likely to have a slower pulse than a teenage man. Regular heartbeat for adults is 60-90 beats/min. My mother's heart beats 40-55 times a minute; she always stuns her doctors with that.

I've heard the ratio was 1 : 20. CB is genetic and dominant in the Y, recessive in the X chromosome, that's why.

On a side note, only men are affected by haemophilia. Women can be carriers but they can't be affected by the condition.

Quote:
Humans spend a third of their lives sleeping.

It's a logical conclusion since most people need 6-10 hours of sleep a day, average of 8. That's exactly 1/3 of 24 hours.

On the topic of muscles, Latissimus Dorsi, a flat muscle on the back, when conditioned with pulsated electronic impulses, will in time resemble cardiac tissue. It's used for cardio surgery.

They also grow with different speed. Thumb nails grow the slowest; middle finger nails have the highest growth rate.

Quote:
Midgets and dwarfs usually have normal size children.

Of course since the condition is not genetic in origin.

It is because in a byte, there are 8-bits. Thus in short, we call it by 8. Btw, a lot of ppl are mistaken by the word mbps. They thought of it as Mega-Bytes Per Second speed. In actual fact, it is Mega-Bits Per Second. For Mega-Byte Per Second, it is actually written in caps -- MBPS

Shakespeare invented the word 'assassination' and 'bump'!

Actually, the word assassin comes from the Latin/Arabic word, "hashshashin", meaing marajuana. In some language or another, the "h's" were silent, so they were removed, creating the word assasin. From the word assasin, people derived the infinitive form; in other words, to assasinate, one who assasinates, etc.

The saying "it's so cold out there it could freeze the balls off a brass monkey" came from when they had old cannons like ones used in the Civil War. The cannonballs were stacked in a pyramid formation, called a brass monkey. When it got extremely cold outside they would crack and break off... thus the saying.
