Music Tastes > Electronic Music

Anyone ever heard of Electronic music?
Well In my opinion, it is the best music to listen to.

Here are 2 bands which I consider to be very good:

Tangerine Dream
Software

You may not have heard of them, but their music is very good.
My favourite being Tangerine Dream is the best band ever.

Here are some songs some of you members might remember, this is from the Dream Sequence CD of Tangerine DReam released in 1985:

The dream is always the same
Tangram part one
Phaedra (very popular song)
Cherokee Lane (live)
Stratosphere (excepert)
Kiew Mission (has some vocals at the start, but its a girl just naming some things, thats all no biggie)
Beach Scene
Love on a real train
White Eagle (very good song)

Most of Tangerine Dreams songs go for maybe 5 minutes, to 40 minutes.
There is one 40 minute song that my dad has, on a CD, and I might listen to it quite shortly.
I dont know much about Software, but again my dad has alot of their songs/albums.

So if any of you members here like or love electronic music, just post here and feel free to ask or discuss them.
Thanks.

Hmm.. According to iTunes, Portishead is kinda electronica. I don't usually like it, but Portishead have a certain dark bluesish/jazzish sound I really enjoy. At least on Dummy.

hmm I unfortunately have not heard that band, but all electronic music I like.
I have created my own 36 minute, electronic song, with a tempo of about 90 I think, and when the tempo was at about 125 it went for 24 minutes, it is a good song.
Tangerine Dream have made a 40 minute song, which I might like to hear quite soon.

Electronic music isn't my favorite, but sometimes I like it just for variety. The thing about most electronic music is that I don't like listening to it for a long time. I'd rather just listen to a few songs every now and then.

A few years ago I bought a used Tangerine Dream CD when the library was selling stuff to make more room. It's the 220 Volt Live CD. I've known about them for years, but don't know songs or CD titles. If you know this CD, is it typical of their music?

well personally I dont, I just got into Tangerine Dream a coupl of months ago, but my Dad knows so much about them, he is a big electronic music fan.
I might ask him later for you.

Here are a couple of pictures that I found of a Tangerine Dream Concert:

*think this is Tangerine Dream, looks like them

Here is what the album cover for Tangerine Dream WarSaw concert looks like (Has one of my favourite songs, Horizon, goes for 20 minutes)

Some Interesting Finds

Martin Gore (of Depeche Mode):
Quote:
We really went 'round the house on that one. I think we had four or five different versions that we scrapped before we actually hit on this one. The final version is very electronic; it has a sort of Tangerine Dream feel to it, really. There were just lots of them that were really kind of jerky electronic, and they really didn't sound right.

Alan Wilder (ex-Depeche Mode):
Quote:
It isn’t as political as some people make out, nor are we solely interested in electronic music. I like German bands – D.A.F., Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream – but I’m not keen on the Howard Jones approach where everything sounds very nice but too easy and familiar.

Quote:
Fan: One question I've been dying to ask is just how you created the loop for 'Waiting For The Night'? Did you use an arpeggiator? How did you get the loop to change key?

Alan Wilder: Flood and I had been listening to Tangerine Dream and decided to try and create a similar atmosphere for this track. The main sequence was put together using his ARP and the sequencer that accompanies the synth. Due to its many velocity and filtering possibilities, this unit has a unique quality which is difficult to replicate using a modern-day sequencer triggered by MIDI. Once it has been set-up, in order for the sequence to be transposed to follow the chord structure of the song, I needed to play in each chord change from an external keyboard. A similar principal was applied to achieve the bubbling bass part which, together with the main sequence, forms the backbone of the track. The charm of the ARP sequencer stems from the slight tuning and timing variations that occur each time the part is played. This gives a sense of fluidity and continual change which seems to suit the song.

Hey if I think it is the best music to listen to, I don't think that is a funny thing.

I could just as easily laugh at your music that you think is the best.

If you don't have anything good to add to here, then just don't say anything.

Thanks.

Dude, relax, I just wanted to see your reaction
Besides, I do have good things to add here. I like Fatboy Slim, Prodigy and Infected Mushroom, but those are more like techno and house...

Are techno and house subgroups of electronic music or are all of them completely different music genres?

oh....okay then...lol

I have listened to Prodigy, they are actually pretty good.

And the music I listen to is way different then Techno, House and all that.

But I guess you could consider Techno and House electronic music (well sub genres of it, like you said).

Bit old list you should add Drunken Mozart in it William

I like Trance music myself over Techno and House but Eletronic is pretty good as well. Daft Punk is way to go

Portishead is good.  A few other of the better options are Massive Attack (Mezzanine), Zero7 (When it Falls), Morcheeba (Big Calm), hell go back to some of the original Enigma albums if you want.  I know there are a few others I'm forgetting....  look up Trip Hop at wikipedia.

Okay, thanks to Guitarguy who has convinced me that Depeche Mode is good. Sometime in 2006 he told me about the band, and at the time I thought it was alright. I didn't listen to them for a long time until around 2007. I got a whole bunch of their songs, but have not started listening to them seriously until just the other day.

I must say that they are very good. I listened to the song "See You" on the album A Broken Frame, and that song convinced me to listen to it more and to give it a chance.

Guitarguy was right when he said that some of the songs need repeated listens. At first, I thought some of the songs were pretty weird and not so good, but when I listen to them again, I can hear that they are pretty good.

I must say that I am going to really enjoy listening to this band. I might even start collecting more of their albums.

At the moment, some of my favourite songs by them are Black Celebration, See You, Enjoy the Silence, Never let me down again (yes I listened to that a few times ), Nothing to Fear, leave in Silence, Blue Dress, Clean, My Secret Garden.

I hope to expand my collection. Oh, and the song Pipeline sucks by DM. I hate that song.

Depeche Mode is ok, but hugely overrated imo.

Anyways, lately I've been listening mostly to some post/blackish/sumtin'-metal, but i enjoy Subliniear and their Pinned Beneath the Boiling Sky. It's not electronica-electronica, but it has some electronica elements in it, mixed with some darkish ambient and, in some songs, trip-hop. It's actually quite good.

Linky. Legal and free.
