Just a few 'whining' things I see about H5 that must be put into perspective

Quick Combat:  As many say, it sucks, or it doesn't do a good job, etc... Remember, its just a friendly option to speed things up, its not supposed to do the job for you, and if it was a perfect optimal calculator, why would you bother doing battles manually then? lol.

So stop whining about that.

Gameplay Timers:  If its clocking you too fast, or you have gripes about it, then just don't play with timers! Who cares if its 8 or 10 minutes?  Just put none and relax.  But if you want my perspective, its great that its also timing your battles, because I'm sorry to say, some of you take waaaay to long just because you're 'in battle'.  No excuse.  No need for calculators and tables to be applied to every move.  Yes its a strategy game, but as far as I know, nobody likes to wait for the other to calculate away.  Have some courtesy.

So stop whining about that.

Patches, Maps etc..:  Face it guys, Homm series is old, and not as popular as first person shooters, or real time strategy games.  Add to that, PC gaming overall is on a downward slope as long as consoles keep having the advantage.  When was the last time you went to electronics boutique or another game store?  PC games are always in some dark corner now.  So my point being: resources invested in a game like this will never be the same as in higher profile games.  UBI is definitely better than 3DO -- but look at the sales -- 350,000 copies -- profit margin at best, 40%.  That is 7 million dollars.  To be honest, I almost make that much right now in a year.  The big bucks are in consoles, and in mega-games like Sims, WOW, etc...  that is the future.
Also, with maps and such, take note that they are far more complex than homm3 maps -- they have voice acting, special scripts & movies, along with a more 'advanced' hall of fame that ties in with it.  With terrain, more visuals and such, its a lot more of a map than something with 2D sprites like in homm3. I sure hope some good multi maps can be made with the editor when it comes out... but until then I will reserve judgement.

So stop whining about that.

The 'Aging Factor': There is also something else... a lot of us have been playing homm for ages, and you know what, its still the same game, and we get tired of it. Long gone is the golden age of getting excited over homm2 or homm3 when all of a sudden, wow, a bigger creature card and more creatures & higher resolution!  As we get older, we also 'mature' in a sense, and gaming is not as interesting as it was before... or at least not as attention grabbing in life as it was.

Anyways, I had to get this off my chest, I'm having fun with homm5 online and offline, and the tourney runs as always, and I'm crossing my fingers that this is just the beginning, its just a slow start.  Already the footmen section is filling up, and we broke the 200 games played.  Just a trickle of fresh faces that are becoming addicted to ToH gaming, and over time, it will add up.

Now I just have to find the time to play some of the veteran addicts, and boost myself out of footman, if ever lol.

A lot of good points made

I have yet to play an online game of Heroes 5 (Aside from the 1 time I tried with Bobby) but I have had a ton of fun learning the game in single player.

I've been wanting to play some of the veterans first but never see anyone on when I go on. Which btw.. we should play sometime Rob.

But I keep saying that Heroes 5 is fairly new.. I know for a fact Heroes 3 needed several patches to make it how it was, so I avoid complaining about the game because they are atleast working on patches constantly.

Lol satyorocon, you win the prize.  I was waiting for the usual angry frustrated board guy to jump at the 7mil comment.  Too bad I can't hand you a hero biscuit in person.

Why is it that on ANY message board the keyboard warriors are always the most vocal? Anyways back to the topic:

JB239, Lichking, & Jinxer -- The 3 players I definitely need to have a game with before August is over.

About console gaming -- I have never owned one and don't care to (I play Homm, Oblivion, Rise of Legends, Battlefield2, Battle for Middle Earth II -- but I'm being realistic.  The likes of us who stick to PC games, is a dying breed in the greater perspective.  Its the MMORPG's that are keeping most of what is called 'PC Gaming' alive.

Nothing wrong about being proud of things u have achieved with your own hands and brain. Different to things u have inherited (anyone mentioned Paris Hilton?..).

Hey,

- 7 or 20 mill, I couldn't care less....
-And for "..As we get older, we also 'mature' in a sense, and gaming is not as interesting as it was before... or at least not as attention grabbing in life as it was...."

- LOL... some retreats to their homemade "dark dungeon" of their house ( at least I do ) to play around with my little collection of games... others go fishing..some even read a book.. to stress off. So that comment was the most "funny" thing from that whole dribble of a thread

i totally agree here and i feel the same. you can give me the best game on earth..i would not play it as much as i would have done it 5 years before..its simply because i got older ..and maybe finally wise

same with homm 5 ..its a good game ..but i still cant find the motivarion to really "play and learn" it...my intrests more and more drift away from computer games in general..but i would not even think about complaining.. why should i ? i got way too much other things to do

OOPS it is twice more than my year payment

May be TOH need some "little donations" from us???

Also i think about technical request to modders and a payment of course. But it will be actual after Last NIVAL PATCH to HOMM5, may be 1-2 years later.
