Heroes 3...Is it luck?

I have many times seen people saying that heroes is luck orientated!

While i agree that there is of course some luck involved,i think that it is more or less Bull*poop*.
Simply look at certain players records on tournamet pages like WW and ToH!Certain players have a win/loss ratio of like 5 wins to every loss, your going to try and convince me that they get luckier than their opponent 80% of the time?LMAO!!!!!
200% is more luck orientated however and i shall explain why.
If i start a game vs an opponent and we both play random towns and we both have approximatly the same skill in the game,i start with Jenova(extra 350 gold per day) and she even got 4 elves in her starting army(damn im lucky),i walk out of my castle day 1...."wow cool....i see 3 piles of gold and some wood for free!!!!"i now buy another hero(awesome...Ivor in tavern and he has 5 elves in starting army ......my LUCKY day) ...."wait.....is that my crystal mine over there with 2 piles of crystal and guarded by lots of zombies?...YES i believe it is....i will take that NOW...thankyou very much!!!!!" So on and so on until i make maybe unicorns and citadel AND town hall week 1.
My opponent has a different story.
Day 1 he starts rdm and is UNLUCKY enough to see straker as his starting hero with necro,he has 6 zombies"damn....unlucky but will try my best" off he sets down the road and comes upon lots of scorpicors guarding the statesmens medal and blocking his

coninued.
Blocking his road!!!"damn" he thinks to himself,"if only i had had enough gold to buy a scout 1st and take a look at this rout....but no...i got bloody straker and 6 zombies with beserk immunity artifact as start bonus"...how unlucky can 1 guy be???"
Guy turns around and takes 3 steps back up the road....runs out of movement!.....
Next day..."hmm now i have earned a massive 500 gold...what should i spend all that money on????"...."should i buy some skeletons to increase my already not so great fighting force...or should i save up to buy another hero? i can get another hero on day 6 if i continue like this....aren't I the UNLUCKY one"....
Enough said????

This is why I made jebus cross! (among other reasons)

The poorer the map, the more significant the luck factor is!

If you both have a ton of stuff, this equals more factors, which means that it will even out.

The only way to make a map balanced it to make it have as much stuff as possible. And Jebus also has weak monsters so ppl dont get locked in the towns (to avoid restarts and time lost)

First about your example - why dont you start with rampart aswell? If you compare the 2 players - why you give jenova for the first as starting hero? And why the &*^*&%$ you start with artefact?

Yes more or less Heroes is luck oriented, but still you can make the most of it. And the luck is coming and going. What like if you find great artefacts later in the game, have earth, logistick as 3 and 4 skill, and the oponent gets leadership and water (chosen them instead of even worst skills). Yes - he will develop faster because of his unicorns, but if the game do not finish soon ( for instance on Blockbuster) those snowty skills could mess up your game.

You just play and hope for the best.

About rich maps as jebus - it kills the game. Becouse almost every mistake is not vital. If you miss a pile of gold - whatever - you`ll get another. And you dont need to calculate wheather you will be able to win a fight with a monsters on the map - becouse they are weak, even with mistakes you will win.

Seems u still didn't get it liophy. Most of the time the players go ALL RANDOM for the start. No town chose, no hero chose.

Better players win 80% on each map And lets define the diference between the players. If its a TOH emperor and noobish beginer it will be 100%. And if its 2 almost equal players probably it will depend more on secondary skills advancement and ratio like 60% for the better player

Conflux and Necro are banned on all custom made templates. You can't get them as starting town if u go ALL RANDOM. This can only happen on 3DO templates.

well in that case its ok, but still  - why would you complain about the luck factor if you start all random? isnt it the exact idea of the random - to have chanse of good luck.

But if u play 130%, the "bad" luck from the start can be compensated, because u still can develop pretty fast by buying more heroes, which either can collect stuff or be a better main. While on 200%, u will never compensate the first week.

Jebus cross is a dump template and has nothing to do with skill, especially if you play it with minimum rules.

What can i say about the rubbish spouting out of your mouth in this thread liophy?
Perhaps your one of the guys who only wins 20% of his games due to the other guy allways being luckier than you?Must be nice to be completely oblivious to the skill of other players and being able to blame every loss simply on "bad luck".
My point is this:Some people will allways be better players than others and nothing will change that.
Because of the amount of "depth" this game has,it is easy for some players to be able to grasp some concepts of the game that other players cannot and will never be able to grasp.
I know my limits, there are some players who i will NEVR be as good as,and will lose most of the games i play against them.....nothing to do with luck....there are also some players that will never reach the standard(rather low actually)that i play the game at...so i will beat them nearly everytime i play them....NOT LUCK...WAKE UP

Hello i am back from playing WOW and started playing Heroes 3 again. So i got a message that my post count was to low. Kinda strange way to force forum activity.

Anyhow, i am back. Let me know if anyone wants to play a game of heroes 3 with me.

To stay on the topic:

Heroes 3 is partly luck when you make a random map with the random map generator. You can have luck with resources or creature dwellings. But it is when the map is balanced SKILLS.

Get a good heroe, and follow a good strategy. Dont attack Iraq like the Americans do. Make a WAR plan. Like playing Civilization 3-4.

- get an objective
- check if you can make it
- dont change your plan

Seems to work fine for me always.

Durrel. First of all - try to think before you start to insult somebody. If you do so MAYBE you will realise that what i said is the oposite of what you got.

I said that there is some luck, but most of the times its not dicisive. And it matters only if the oponents are of same abilities. If i am a noob and play against a master - no luck can help me ever.

But if i play against a player of my class and he has 2-3 dwellings and i have none - hi is the favorite to win the game.

200% = High emphasis on luck
130% = Lower emphasis on luck

Medium rich template with 1 big thing like a tope = high emphasis on luck = These games are decided by luck in the tope.

Rich template with 2-3 topes take-able = lower emphasis on luck.

Very rich template with more stuff than you could take? = Very low luck factor, since ur saturated with challenges for your skill = You can play full gear all the time and use your skill 100%

First about your example - why dont you start with rampart aswell? If you compare the 2 players - why you give jenova for the first as starting hero? And why the &*^*&%$ you start with artefact?

I made it clear in the 1st place that both players started random!

You just play and hope for the best.<<<<<<LOL?

And you dont need to calculate wheather you will be able to win a fight with a monsters on the map - becouse they are weak, even with mistakes you will win.

Jebus is a different style of playing to most other randoms. It is often about choosing a route that will allow your main hero be in the exact position he need to be in order to win the strongest fights he can take at any given time. This means that VISION is required to be able to see if you can make all the requirements to have this strengths, and small mistakes can actually set you back a full day....1 day might not sound much but on jebus it is everything.....and could you please explain to me why you find a horde of efreeti sultans or a pack of arch angels easy fights that require no skill and allow for mistakes? These are tough fights that must be taken ASAP...there is NO room for mistakes!

But if i play against a player of my class and he has 2-3 dwellings and i have none - hi is the favorite to win the game.

Of course playing against more dwells can make it harder.I have won such games however because my opponent felt so comfortable with his immense army that he felt he could relax and play at a more leisurly pace, whilst i on the other hand used every trick i knew and took many risks to increase the strengths of my hero as fast as i could and killed his 10 black dragons with my 3 titans...My skills in this case outmatched his luck,it doesn't allways work like this.....but sometimes, sure.BTW...my opponent was NO n00b!

Of course Heroes 3 is luck.
I always say that playing a game of heroes 3 is like playing poker.
You make big decisions.
You make gambles.
One mistake can cost you the whole game.
In battle you can put the pressure on your oponent & try to outplay him.
There is also skill involved.
Usually the better player will win.
I garuntee the better player will usually win over luck.
