Heroes I: Barbarians!
Heroes II: Barbarian, Sorceress and Wizard
Heroes III: Conflux! Dungeon, Castle and Rampart are good, too.
Heroes IV: Preserve and Academy are great!
BTW, this should be in the Library of Enlightenment.

The towns that I will play are Necropolis, Stronghold, Conflux, Fortress, Inferno, Castle.
However, the towns that I like are Stronghold, Fortress, Necropolis, Castle, and Conflux.
For stronghold, it just takes a few days to build a lvl 7 dwelling and another couple of days to build Ogre Fort. Ogre Mage is one of the lvl 4 creatures in Heroes 3 with a high hp. However, the building of a lvl 7 dwelling depends on the the difficulty that u have played. I normally play rook and thus the resources are enough for me to build a lvl 7 dwelling in Stronghold and recruit behemoths.
For Fortress, it does not depend on crystals and gems and the low level units are quite cheap. Therefore, I usually concentrate on building the creature dwelling to lvl 6 dwelling which is wyvern nest so that I have the growth of creatures from lvl 1- lvl 6. If u have enough money, u can build a citadel in the first week to boost your creature's growth.
Mainly, the towns that I like are usually those that can be built very quickly. For Fortress, I can build lvl 7 dwelling at the third week as I concentrate on economy on the second economy.
I have to agree that different people have different preferences in the case of which town u like. For me, I like the speed of developing the town as soon as possible.
