Gnolls are one of those creatures that look good as neutral units. I allways thought Gnolls are bandits and renegades and don't have large settelments.
Besides who would team with those guys?
The whole lizardman-gnoll union in HOMM3 seemed unlikely. The only thing the two races had in common was the fact they live in swamps. I doubt they would alliance again. The Gnolls and Lizzards allways seemed more like rivals to me. The Gnolls don't look like creatures who'd like to be allies with anyone, and alone they lack the... erm... appeal&potential... of a whole race with large cities and big armies.
It would be great if there is a Gnoll hero or two for hire though. And Gnolls as mersenaries doensn't sound that bitter either.
Hyena-people as a whole race? Nah...
But Chackal-people would be great... with Egiptian buildings and stuff. Hyenas, Mummies, Giant Scarabees, an Elemental or two, maybe even a Sphinx or a Manticore... and a town around a huge Pyramide. Anyhow, enough off-topic.

egyptian theme would also fit more with cat-people(tigrans/kattas/whatevertheyareindifferentgames) than dog-people(gnolls)

But the Academy allready has cat-people. I never said Gnolls would fit the Egyptian style, I ment Jackals... like Anubis.

i think that the bandits idea for gnolls would be good. they own no alleigence unto themselves, so they will fight for anyone for a price. they could pillage money off other creatures.
sorry, this is supposed to be any thoughts, not, "bixie does a monologue, whilst everyone else looks at eachother, raises eyebrows and call the phyciatric ward"
i was thinking about their religion. i was thinking that the gnolls have their own individual god for each gnoll. its kind of like having a guardian angel, who you worship to carry on protecting you, so they are really their own priests. the more powerful ones have mutliple deities. they believe that they only see their god when they are about to die, and once they die, they become a god to other people. (they call them Biko, which is Gnoll for watcher). i had a chat to my own Biko and he said it was fine to put it down.

By the way, the community of Wake of God forum alreay thought about it. >_<

i was thinking about units aswell, not just over all themes.
1>Maruader-> Mace fighter
2>Bolas warrior -> trapper
3>???????
4>???????
5>Werewolf-> Lycanthrobe (why, werewolves are looking for a faction to take them in, and Gnolls kindly ablinged)
6>???????
7>???????
i now leave it up to you guys to sought out the remainder and coment on the units so far.
