The holidays were pretty busy for most people I think.

But usually the winter and spring are good times for Glade. Cauldron's Keep started up and was pretty successful last year. Hopefully Glade can do even better this year.

About the thread. I think for the most part we to gather our ideas and decide on what should stay and if anything could be developed a bit more.

I think I like Shadowcaster's idea of the Illysians seeking out Ekko Magicka once again as well as numerous other magical artifacts of great power.

I also really like the relationship between the flying race and the aquatic race.

Plot Ideas:

1.) The Illysians are seeking out magical artifacts of great power as well as break the curse of their homelands. To aid them, they will pretty much use any means to do so. I'm thinking they could hire people with special skills to do their bidding.

Perhaps they could bribe one a royal guard to sneak into a palace and steal some magical artifacts. This is a bit vague, but I think something along these lines could be interesting.

Another possibility could be to hire one of the druids, I described earlier in this thread to explore the ruins.

2.) A young druid learns to morph into a red dragonwhelp. He decides to venture to the land of the dragons. There he tells the dragons of the events of man over the past thousand years. Perhaps this could somehow be tied in with my first idea. Maybe somehow the contact with the dragons can tie into the Illysians new interest in freeing their homeland and seeking out power once again.

What is the relationship going to be between the dragons and the rest of the land? With the curse of the Northern Wastes is there no living beings there? Is the curse we need to break? Can we use the dragons as transport like in WOW?

This was something I had put in my first post, can you give me some feed back on the desired technology that this world will have or will it depend on the different races.

Quote:
As far as technologies are concerned it could be that some of the races are really well developed and others have more internal powers, the less technology the better in my opinion. There is this constant pull between the two to prove that one rules over the other.

I think that if we figure out who will be consistent with posting we could have those people pick a race that they develop characters within. We could start with a description of the curse and how we need to go about things.

Quote:
Perhaps this could be a race of Dragoons, a great colony of dragon tamers who bred the first dragon many eons ago. If so, it could be the oldest of all races and the wisest, sort of like the elves in LotR.

I love dragons…I love this idea and the aquatic race as well…

I forgot to post this a while ago.

Anyway... I had an idea for a pretty elaborate description of backstory and the curse and how it came about. So here it is.

Since the first few days of mankind, dragons have inhabited the world of Drakhavna. Dragons of all sizes and shapes once called Drakhavna their home. And for a long time dragons called mankind their closest friend for man was once a humble and peaceful race.

The dragons had first been captivated by the crude but clever beginnings of man. They found man’s crafty devices and strange ways in which they built their homes and created fire. Here is where they saw mankind’s ability to manipulate the environment. Gammella, one of the elder red dragons was the first to befriend man nearly five thousand years ago. She found them particularly interesting and decided that this new race of creatures must be mentored in the ways of magic.

For a hundred years, Gammella taught this young race of man about the magic of the world. She taught them crude spells, such as a magical fire and even created her own spell that would sharpen the tools for which they used to cut trees and build their homes. They were merely simple spells that would help mankind in their everyday lives. And man was humbled by Gammella and grateful. Mankind began to celebrate Gammella. These good graces could not do anything but charm all races of dragons. And soon Gammella had not just dozens, but scores of dragons mentoring this new race.

As each generation passed, it was clear that only some individuals were able to wield the arts of magic. And so Gammella took it upon herself to have mankind begin to teach themselves in a more organized fashion. She created a system of rankings and established the first Guild of Magic. But what was meant to simply be a system for which all of man could come and learn, the new mages thought themselves to be more worthy of further teachings and practices. The guild became increasingly exclusive until eventually only certain families were accepted into the guild, no matter how adept they were in the ways of magic.

And so mankind left their homelands and traveled to settle themselves throughout the rest of the world. As the centuries past, man began to specialize their practices of magic. The settlers to the east, discovered the arts of transformation, turning themselves into the various creatures of the forest. To the south, man, who had fallen in love with the beauty of the ocean, learned to breath underwater and transform their limbs to swim like fish. Far, far to the south, past the ocean, man took to the air, discovering the magic of flight. But most of mankind didn’t advance all too much. Where many continued its practice, others forgot its ways completely.

However, the guild of magic had prospered under the careful guidance of Gammella and the other dragons. Their power over magic was far, far greater than any other order of man. Prideful and arrogant for centuries, they proclaimed themselves the Illysians. After not even a few hundred years, their empire was vast and beautiful. The land had been carved into their own. Monuments were carved into the mountainsides. Multi-level cities were built hundreds of feet high.

The Illysians weren’t just bold, they had become greedy for power. Every generation they pushed Gammella to learn more and more. Constantly they asked to learn of the more powerful magic they knew the dragons possessed, but she told them the truth, they simply weren’t ready for such dangers. But as the centuries past, the Illysians continued to become more and more adept. Their power grew and so did they greed and lust for power. Many of the dragons foresaw this change in man and left over the centuries until only Gammella and a few other dragons remained to teach mankind. But eventually even they too decided that it was best not to teach them anything too powerful. Such dangers would simply be put into immature and naďve hands.

And so Gammella told the Illysians that she had taught them all she could. They were simply not ready to learn the more dangerous arts of magic. They needed to time mature and learn the more delicate aspects of magic. But the Illysians would not have it. They bashed Gammella and attacked her with accusations. They said she was simply being greedy and feared the greatness that mankind could one day become. Gammella was heartbroken finally see such a humble gentle race turn into such a monster. She left the Illysian empire in remorse and ventured south to her capitol city.
After a few decades of what the Illysians felt were insufficient advancements in the arts of magic, Archmage Talbaugh, the leader of the Illysian Order of Magic, began planning a secret mission to travel to the capitol city of the dragons and steal The Book of the Ancient Ones. The dragons had forbid man to look upon this text, since they began to apprentice mankind in the ways of magic. It was not only a religious document, but also a book that beheld crafts of magic that would belittle the simple spells that were woven by man.

The Illysian campaign was a success and Archmage Talbaugh successfully returned the Book of the Ancient Ones to their capitol city. But something that the Archmage did not expect happened upon opening the book. The book was crafted of pure Ekko Magicka. It contained powerful defensive mechanisms that would let only those worthy of reading its powers. The book instantly turned Archmage Talbough to stone and cast a curse on all of his people.

Monsters began to spawn from the powerful spells on the books. Wraithes, Scorpions, Werewolves and numerous other monsters tore through the city like lightning. Normally the Illysians would been more than able to defend themselves, but the curse had silenced them of their magical powers. Only the Illysians that had left on travels or managed to flee the region were spared. The mechanics of the curse were designed to obliterate specific races within its empire.

The descendants of pure Illysian blood who now return to their former homelands are sensed by the magical creatures of the curse and are hunted until they once again either leave the region or are killed. Those with small fractions of Illysian blood are still under some danger to the curse, but they will only be sensed by monsters that are nearby.

However, those who are not of Illysian descent still think the area to be somewhat dangerous as there are still dangerous creatures that inhabit the area, however those with no Illysian blood are fully capable of defending themselves against these creatures.

This RP is set in time 3600 years after the curse of the Illysian homelands.

Heh, I remember this thread when I used to post a lot in the Glade (well a lot more than I do now). I'm still interested to see where this would go and i would participate in it for whenever it gets ready.

Alright... My idea for pulling this together to make an RP...

The hospitable regions of the world are split in two by the Northern Wastes and Drakhavna (aka Land of the Dragons).

The Northern Wastes were once home of the Illysians, but is now cursed by a book of the dragons called Tome of the Ancient Seven.

The amphibious race is now under great tension with those who live on land. Thus travel across the ocean between the two worlds is dangerous. With travel across Drakhavna completely out of the question, the safest method of travel is to commute through the Northern Wastes. Those without Illysian blood are capable of defending themselves from such creatures, but it is still dangerous nonetheless.

As such the business of guiding people across the Northern Wastes has grown immensely. Some have even go so far as to create trade caravans in hopes to profit on goods in supply-less marketplace.

So with these things in mind, I think we could go ahead and put some characters together.

Sounds good, at least for part of the story. Maybe if we continue expanding the world, new facets of the storyline can be added and pretty much anyone with even a fleeting interest in RPing can find something to draw them in. I think we should definitely keep expanding, though.

I don't have any ideas right now as I'm in the process of applying to law schools right now (which is more dizzying than you think), but I'll post again after I have a chance to reread through this thread and at least expand on the ideas I've laid out here.
