Violent Games

There's a lot written and said abou violent games and violence on the Tv and how it affects children. What do you think about it, do you play such games  and if yes how do you feel after?

I play violent games and after playing those I feel like killing people!!!

But seriously, the argument that violent video games make people violent is the stupidest I've ever heard. Some not too bright Don Quixotes look for things to try to justify their meaningless windmill fights. "Oh, those guys shot a bunch of people in high school! It must be because they played Doom, NOT because almost everyone in that school treated them like **** for years. Light up your torches, folks!!! Lets go hunt us some game developers!!!"

Interesting thing is: there was WAAAAAAAAY more violence in the past. Just think of middle ages. And a striking fact is: there were no video games, there was no Manson, there were no violent movies, etc. In fact, now that I think about it... violence was one of the very few entertainments available to people

I think they can affect the kids but only in cases of long exposition to this material...

but not the  teenegears or adult people...

Personally I play a lot of violent games and I thinks a good way to leave the strees behind! you can kick a dude in the screen instead the guy behind you in traffic using his horn all the time

Would be interesting to know which kind of violent computer games Ted Bundy and Jack Unterweger played.

To state "Everybody who plays violent computer games is a possible person running amok in schools er elsewhere" is the same as: "Everybody who watches porn is a potencial rapist"

Most of the time the reason behind an amok can be found in the social environment, a broken home...etc...

How many people played "Counter Strike"? (Was the game the latest amok running guy in germany played online a lot)
And how many ran amok?

Just too easy to blame the computer for such things..

Awesome Article!!! He goes straight to the point and is as blunt as he can get. I agree with most of his thoughts. (His writing style reminds me of Gootch, btw.)

LOL!!!!! I absolutely loved this line (related to Mario series): "Your only choice is to rescue her or stand there doing nothing. You can't rape the princess." I don't think I've ever heard such an unconventional thought about this game.

Even better one (about Dead or Alive): "Look at how her boobs jiggle when she gets kicked in the face! Girls are even hotter when they're in pain!"

Or, how about: "For comparison, one industry study predicted that one hundred times that many gamers will wind up getting the new Revolution controller stuck up their ass."

Thats a load of bull****, I have seen many parents care as to what particular games people play.

I know at one stage I wanted to get a game called "manhunt" but my parents would not let me, as my dad read some reviews about it, and later that game was banned, which is a shame because it looked really cool

You probably don't know what you are going on about so let me say some stuff:

Parents do care about what games their children play.

I have heard of Court Cases going on for GTA Vice City player's going out into the real world and killing people, that seems that the parents didn't care, or did they but the son/daughter did not listen?

Most likely.

Manhunt was a game which I think was rated R-18+ over here, got banned because of the excessive gore and violence that was put in it.

But I have seen some children which are like 15 years old and they are not allowed to play MA15+ games, which is kinda sad, but backs up my point on parents caring.

Well this is fun I like this thread. My son is fourteen years old and has been playing video games for sometime, some violent. IMO I feel that it depends on the child and what his perception of how he is internalizing what he sees on the screen. My youngest feels that bodily harm that is portrayed on the screen is more real and has a hard time deciphering what is real and what is fiction. Then there is my daughter who is 11 and she can’t handle a scary commercial and will have nightmares if she even hears her older brother watching a scary movie with his friends.

So as you can see each child is different and has to be given different choices based on what has been observed. If we look at the list of serial killers we can see that thirty years ago pong was not playing a huge role in the sickness that occurs in the brain of a violent human. Do I think that it can enhance the warm feelings that a naturally violent person feels, yes? My children are really laid back for the most part; if they had emotional problems and showed violent behavior I would reconsider allowing any violent material in my home. Not because I real feel it would make some huge difference but because a recovering alcoholic does not need to be in house full of booze.

The fact is you child cannot be given just steel walls to beat their heads in all the time. They will feel bound by restriction and then over indulge once they get to their friends house. There has to be a happy medium. Good luck because my children failed to bring their manual with then from the womb.
